Howdy ladies and gentlemen,

I just picked up this little gem from my FFL. I found it for sale at Morphy's Auction House.

It is a S&W 29-2 that was used by the Louisville PD. From the research I've done here (thanks for posting everyone who knew the history on them) these guns were issued to members of the SWAT team and higher-ranking personnel.

I've been after one of these for 4 years and I'm ecstatic to finally have one.

Couldn't find any 44 special ammo locally, hopefully I can find some at a gun show this weekend

Wow! A thread with pictures of all of those would sure be interesting!

That is quite a find. Some time back, I got two Remington 870 receivers with that same stamp. I enjoy any agency/department marked firearm.

Do you know if the 29-2s were carried and used on the job, or were they more of retirement gift or something?

If you ever want to off load one of them please let me know.

The 29's were issued to the SWAT team and higher-ranking personnel

Nice gun. impressive list. Surprised there is not a model 19 in the bunch.

My own PD collection is quite small. I have:

A S&W 5946 used by Garden City PD in New York

A S&W 5946 used by an NYPD officer

A Ruger Police Service Six used by an NYPD officer. This was part of the last class to get the blued guns with spurred hammers.

A post war S&W M&P .38 purchased by a NYPD patrolman in 1946. That patrolman went on to use this gun in a shootout with 4 perps. He was awarded the Medal for Valor for the gun fight. I have the newspaper clippings of him being awarded the medal by the mayor. He got into this shootout in the same precinct I would work in 47 years later. It is my most valued firearm.

I'd really like a Model 29 one day.

Louisville sure came up with a nice frame stamp. What marking does the Louisville Model 10 have which you list in your collection?

Here's one on a Victory from June 1945:
