Will a 6 round CS45 magazine work in a 6 round 3.25" 945? Thanks in advance!

I'm surprised you haven't got an answer yet.
(EDIT #2: OK, after looking further at the 945 series, I'm going to change my answer completely. I thought there might be a chance, but now I can't say that. Sorry!)
Are you certain of the 945 mag capacity? I just looked up the 945 on another thread on the Forum that has a chart of the 945 variations, and the smallest capacity it lists is a 7-round. If that's actually what you have, then no, the CS magazines won't fit, sorry.

If it takes 7 round mags , send me a PM . I bought some 845 & 945 mags a while back and some 7rd mags were included . I don't have a 7rd 945 some have no use for them , They are new in the package if you're interested .
I seem to remember , that's a dangerous thing , there was a 6rd 945 made . Never seen one , but as they say , anything is possible with S&W .

The first thing that comes to my mind is the magazine release slots in the mag bodies. They are in different locations.

I only have one 945 and full size 8rnd .45 magazines are not compatible with it.

I do have a 945 magazine with two catch slots in it. I assumed it was for my early LEW 945 and S&W was modifying the plentiful existing full size magazines to send out with the early 945's. (?)

I'm sure it is easy enough to do.

Jim

There are a few 6rd 945 models listed on the link above.
945 Group 3 (Product Codes 170180 – 170227 (B))

I have a 170184 (B) No billboard model, and can confirm that it is a 6rd magazine. Unfortunately I don't have a CS45 to compare it to. But off the top of my head, I would say no, it will not work due to the different location of the mag catch slot. 945 mags are marked as such.

OK, I see it now. Thanks! :o

The CS 45 Mags will absolutely fit and work fine in it.

Well…. I was really hoping that this is true. But at least in my case CS45 magazines do not work in the 3.25", 6 rnd 945-1 I got.

It was interesting to see the mags that came with my example were obviously modified CS45 mags. This is something I will probably do because I have lots of CS45 mags.

The attached picture from left to right is, three 6 rnd 945-1 mags, a CS45 mag and a pre-rail 4513TSW one. You can see the CS45 indentations on the 945 ones, (and the CS45,) and the 4513 doesn't have them. I can only "assume" that the 945 needs these type of magazine. (?)

My apologies Jim I had it backwards.
The 945-1 fits the CS 45 but not the reverse. I just checked mine because I knew I had done it before.
I am quite sure the only difference is the 2 cutouts vs 1 in the 945 vs CS45
If you could machine duplicate the 2nd cut out they would be completely interchangeable.
The mags themselves w/o baseplate are identical except for that extra cutout.
My guess is they made the 945 much later snd designed it so it would also work in a CS45. I'm curious if it would also work in a 6 round 4513TSW.

Yes the 6rnd 945-1 magazines fit and function in both the CS45 and 6rnd 4513TSW.

I'm still wondering if the CS45 "indentations" at the top of the magazine are necessary in the 3.25" 945, (like they are with the CS45,) or wether the PC was just using the existing CS ones? I'm also curious if all 6rnd 945 magazines have these indentations.
Apparently only the 3.25" 945-1's and CS45's have them. None of the other numerous compact magazines are like that.

Looks like the 945 6rnd magazine is nothing more than a modified 6rnd CS45 magazine. The 945 magazine has a higher slot for the magazine catch release.

On another note, 7rnd 945 magazines work in the 6rnd 945 and stick out past the base of the frame an extra 1/2 inch or so.

Thank you everyone for your help!

You brought up your original posted question again and it seems it's still getting views. I'd really like to find out if all the the 3.25" 945-1's came with what appears to be modified CS45 magazines.
I either have an early one, (1999,) or a very late one, (2009.) I'm thinking it's an earlier one which might explain the modified CS45 magazines. But did all of them come with this type magazine and are they needed? (Like the CS45's.)

Anyone, anyone, Buehller ???

Jim
