CS45 Question

What year was the Chief Special .45 (CS45) first manufactured and put into production?

According to my SCS&W.... " Introduced August 1998 in a blue finish with the stainless version introduced in February 1999." Found that on page 327 of the Catalog.

Thanks redsfan2. I had expected it to have been a few years earlier than 1999.

I wonder how sales were for the first few years. I'm suprised I don't know anyone else to own one (except for on forums of course).

Glad to help. Its not often that I get to do it, So many of the other guys here can tell you when it was made .... in what part of the factory .. and who was on shift that day .. etc.
From what I've been able to get from the guys here ( mostly inferred ) is that it was a really good little gun that was kind of under appreciated during its production. I've heard that its no longer produced ... and that it is still in production but only for sale to police departments .... don't know which for sure.
I'm the only one around this area to have one as well. I walked into mine in the gunshop and put it on hold right then and there. When I went back to pick it up, the guy told me that a couple of other guys had heard it was there and wanted to see it. ...... not exactly rare, but not a lot on the market either so it would seem.
