CS9 & CS45 Lover

Thanks brother
We feel an empty spot without Pops but are confident he is in a better place....and no more suffering.
On another note I am making grips again and ready to take orders. Pass the word.
Thanks again

Wow, you have made over 70 of those? you must be getting good at it. The one I made for mine looks rough, but it is functional. I need to get me some stock bedding material and clean mine up a bit.

Alrighty then!
You see some folks like them. Its just personal prefrence I guess. I have pretty big hands and the factories are just down right uncomfortable for me personally. One good thing for you if yours ever wear out I have some extras to sell you because I have tons of them here that I have been asked to try and remove the palm swell from for people. Thats a whole new project that I am working on.

I just purchased a CS45 from a fellow forum memeber and should have it within a week. If this gun works out I may have to also look around for a CS9. I saw one just sold in the classified forum for a good price.

I am am member of the 3rg Gen fan club. Part of my collection is the trio of CS 9/40/45.

I finally talked myself into going plastic, so I was looking at carry .45's at the last gun show. Then I happened upon a CS9. I liked it a lot (especially since it's a Smith and it's not plastic.) I didn't get it since I really want another .45. This thread pretty much has me sold, so the search is on for a CS45.

A few questions though. Is the 3rd gen the best? When did the 3rd gen start (serial #,yr,etc.)? Is this the latest model that I see on the S&W website and does it have an internal lock? Anything to watch out for? Is the ambi-safety easy to change out?

Thanks in advance folks!

FWIW:

I don't know when the changeover to the 3rd Gen S&W's occurred, but I know they were making them as late as 2/08 because I bought a NIB 3913LS & CS9 and both were made around that time. (serial #'s BEM XXXX).

Only revolvers had internal locks.

Why would you want to change out an ambi-safety? When I cc my CS9 I never use the safety anyway. The first round is always DA and the DA trigger pull is certainly adequate in preventing AD/ND's... The ambi-safety is a nice "option" for those folks who feel the need for "additional" safety precautions, but either way I don't see why you would want to mess with them..

Perhaps you are thinking the CS9 has only one safety (lever) that can be swapped to either side? Perhaps some CS9's are like that, but my CS9 has an actual safety lever on BOTH sides. (The LS pictured w/the CS 9 only has a safety lever on the left side. (for righty's?) I'm a lefty, so I prefer a safety lever on the right side.

Just personal opinion, no offense.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

No offense taken Jesse, and thanks for the info.

As far as the ambi-safety is concerned, I don't think that I made myself clear. What I should have asked is - Can I remove the ambi-safety if the gun comes equipped with one? I'm a righty so I'd prefer a left side safety only.

Sorry I misunderstood your question. The reason I qualified my answer (to the question you didn't ask) is because I believe I have seen posts with photos of CS9's (black ones for sure) that apparently came from the factory with only a single safety lever on the left side. Of course I was happy mine had two because I'm a lefty.

No doubt the absence of a 2nd safety lever on the side of your pistol nearest your body IS a plus, as I noticed the 3913LS lies very close to my back and I contribute that to it's not having the protrusion of a lever on that side.

I'm quite fond of the 3913LS and it seems it's very popular (more so than the CS9 for sure), but the grip is too thin for my taste.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

When I get my CS9D back from S&W, I will post pic's. It is the black without a decocker, double action only.

I recently re-discovered my CS9 in the back of the safe. Like others have said, its a comfortable gun that is surprisingly accurate for its size.
As of late, I've been shooting a CZ75D compact and a FNP9 at the range. The CS has a far smoother trigger than either of those two. The main reason it doesn't go to the range much is it seems like I spend more time loading mags than shooting ( you go through 7 rounds in no time.)
I end up carrying a Glock 26 most of the time when I'm not working - I qualify with that gun and I don't worry much about it getting wet / cold / cruddy.
If I could only have one gun, the CS would be a contender.

Many years of service to me...

I bought my CS45 about six or seven years ago. I’ve shot just about every type of ammunition in it, even CCI shot shells (which cycled fine) and I’ve had zero problems with it. It’s always loaded with 185-grain Winchester Silver Tips.

It’s a dependable little pistol in my opinion.

Hey Jesse,You forgot about Mikey.....I Love my CS9 and the only reason I don't have a CS45 is because Mrs CRN, aka Ginny, says NO because I will someday get her father's service 1911 he used in his military career. It is true I was the stimulus for Big Dog's CS9 grips but here in NY it can be very dangerous for you if a pistol prints out and a overzealous cop yells GUNNNN,so for me the grips made it perfect ........Mike

Here's my tribe. Two in .45 (one Stainless, one Black)and the other a 9mm with the Big Dog grips. I really like both the .45 and 9mm but if it came down to one I'd pick up the .45

Afraid to shoot one in .40 because I know I'd have to buy one! Maybe I ought to sell my black CS45 and get a nickle CS40?
