CS9 Loose Slide?

Greetings, Gents (and others) - New on this forum, though active on others, and I've owned many Smiths over the years, all revolvers. Well, I picked up a CS9 a couple of days ago to replace the wife's Sig 232. We took it to the range last night, and aside from the small sights that are a challenge to our aging eyes, we both enjoyed shooting it. My wife found it easy to handle (other than racking the slide) and she printed some impressive groups. We both were impressed with the gun's apparent accuracy.

Here's why I'm reaching out to you folks who have a lot more experience with these guns than me. The pistol generally appears to be in good shape. The slide, though, rattles like your granddaddy's Army-issue 1911. Owning mostly Sigs, Beretta's and HK autos, I'm not used to a lot of slack between frame and slide. And as I said, the gun shot with 100% reliability and admirable accuracy when we did our part. But when I hold the frame in one hand and the slide in the other, the amount of play is substantial. I'm planning to disassemble and clean it this evening. My questions: Is a good deal of slide play typical for this gun? And is there anything in particular I should be looking for when I disassemble it?

Thanks in advance.

Is the play substantial when the CS9 is loaded and ready for action???

Patbelly - Thanks for the great suggestion. Over lunch I loaded up the CS9 and gave it a shake. Much less wobble than before. I compared it with the Sig 228 that's my usual truck gun - it's also well used, and the CS9's looseness was very little more than the Sig's. Just to check my sanity, I unloaded the Sig and gave it a shake - it was much tighter than the unloaded CS9. Well, that's comforting. I couldn't reconcile what seemed like very good accuracy from the CS9 with its looseness. It seems that I have a non-problem. Now I just have to work on the sights!

Great forum and great help!

Glad you're having success with the CS9. It's a pistol I would like to own some day. Congrats and enjoy.

My CS9's slide does not have a lot of play empty and even less play when loaded, but if your's functions properly, I say "shoot it, carry it, shoot it some more, then carry it some more".

You say your not having a problem with accuracy so IMHO shoot it and don't worry about it. Granddads loose fitting 1911 is still darn accurate as long as the bushing is tight.
