My 642 has LG-405 CT grips that I paid a pretty penny for and I like the idea of the laser and all, as I`m pushing 60 and the old eyes ain`t what they used to be and it feels good in my hands and shoots well, the gun that is. But...I sure like the look of some of the wood that I have seen here on the forum. This is my one and only hand gun and it`s for conceal carry 7 days a week. I`m not a collector and when I go to a Bar-B Q, it stays in my pocket. But dang... I like the look of a boot grip wood. I know it`s a personal choice type of thing but I was hoping for some input from some of you guys, perhaps just for conversations sake. I don`t need and can`t afford to get a second 642. I like my CT`s but they are butt ugly...I want wood but then my CT`s would just sit in the box. I don`t need two different types of grips for one gun do I? What would y`all do if faced with a silly situation like this? I realize this is a dumb azz post but I`ve not posted anything in a while so please forgive me. Thanks, Karl

Get what you like, as long as it fits your hand. You could always unload your ct's on the forum here. I sold mine to a fellow member. Your gun has to be to your liking, know what I mean. I've got hogue monogrips on every single s+w revolver I own. I've got hands like a gorilla and the hogues fit gooood. Plus they're inexpensive.

I have no idea if i would like the way the wood grips would feel or shoot. +1 on the Houge..I had them on a Ruger SP-101 357 that I sold not long ago. Even though my 642 is for CC, I still like to like the way wood looks but realize there is a down side as to the finish and dings and such. I was thinking I could sell the CT`s, buy some wood and have a few bucks left over but then if I did not like the wood I would miss the CT`s. and would have a hard time replacing them. I guess my best bet would be to save up and get some wood. I don`t expect y`all to solve this problem for me...just thinking out loud I guess.

Just my Oppinion but the Hogue that are for the Ruger SP101s are too BIG for concealed pocket carry but fit the hand great..
The Closest thing I know to those grips for the J Frame Round Butt would be the Uncle Mikes Combat Grip..
There's a compromise you have to make for being small enough for pocket carry but the larger grips are fine when worn on the hip or in a shoulder holster..
I have Craig Spegels Boot Grips on my three Centennials & they are smooth & fast & LOOK Better than my pics can show.. The Checkered set are nice too, They have more grip but don't bite into clothing like Rubber does..
You may have the best of Both worlds with the LG405 CTC grips on your 642 flounder22, There smooth on the sides = Plastic & Rubber on the upper backstrap & in the front grip area but are small enough for pocket carry Too..
Plus they have the Laser..
Here's some pics of a few SP101s I used to have but sadly Traded them for Smith & Wesson J & K frames :D
You can see I tried every grip I could find for both revolver sets & went with the Hogue on the SP101 & Craig Spegel on the J Frames, Also Note that Uncle Mikes are Copies of Craig Spegels work, No wonder Smith & Wesson had/has them on thier revolvers for the past 15-20 years now..

My 642 is a survival tool, nothin' else. My Crimson Trace grips (L-305) are there to increase my odds of "survival". They give me better control of
.38+P's and "point the way". No way would I trade them for somethin' "Pretty". When it comes to the least important attribute of a defense gun it has to be "pretty". Sheesh!!

if it is your CCW that means you may need to save your own life with it, and if your eyes are failing don't risk it, keep the CT but if you like the look of wood get a set to wear on another gun around the house or something.

Thanks for all the input guys...I think 38 and 53 has hit the nail on the head. I don`t want to give up the CT`s....so I`ll get some wood and hang on to the CT`s and swap them out on occasion, after all this is a belly gun and during my occasional wood carry time, I don`t think I would miss from 5 to 10 yards out. Hope none of us ever have to test that out. Too bad someone don`t make some wood with a laser sight. Think how cool that would be.
