Cure for Shield shooting left

First take the tape off. The problem you have is simply called getting used to the firearm. Your hand is just not used to grasping it properly. By adding **** to the weapon all you are doing is making things worse...and possibly unsafe. LEARN the right grip for the weapon.

Hmmm...so adding the arched mainspring housing on the 1911A1 was just 'okey-doke'?

Both my 9 Shield and 9c shoot low left. My 9L ported PC did at first, figured that out much faster than the other two, adjusted grip and site painted front and rear and it's dead center 90% of the time. The other 10% is me screwing up.

As for the Shield I just got my slide back from Dawson Precisson, they installed new fiber optic front and rear from me. I screwed up the install myself and they hooked me up with new for half price. Now that i can see the sites better and working on my hold and trigger control I should have an awesome carry gun.

By adding **** to the weapon all you are doing is making things worse...and possibly unsafe. LEARN the right grip for the weapon. An old trick I learned about 40+ years ago is this: Pick up a pistol and holster it. Slowly draw it and bring it up to sight. If the sights are not where they should be from the first try. Adjust your grip one or two times. Or it just may not the "right" weapon for you.
The fact you say you have "big hands" and your trouble with it tells me you bought the "wrong" pistol.

GEEZZZZZZZZ!!!! LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS!!!!

My primary shooting sport is skeet and sporting clays. I am an outcast, an invalid, among my peers for I do not have a custom made stock for my Browning shotgun. The purpose of having a custom made stock is to have the gun fit YOU better, not the other way around. The better the gun fits, the better you will shoot it. Go to any top shooting event (USPSA, IDPA, etc) and you will see countless guns that have been modified in one or many ways to fit the shooter better.

OP, if the grip swell works for you. Great!! I applaud you for the solution you came up with. Good job!!!

Also I have to say the fact that you have pinned you 1911's grip safety really bothers me. That is not safe at all. In fact it is down right dangerous.

I laugh a little every time I see this posted on a gun board. Texas Rangers, U.S. Marines, and Competition Shooters have all been know to dog down or pin grip safeties. I don't carry a 1911, or any other pistol with a grip safety, but if I did you can bet the grip safety would be dogged down. I have more than once had to readjust my grip when drawing and firing quickly or firing one handed/off handed during pistol classes. As Always, YMMV
