Curious about what local laws you have to deal with ?

Forgot to mention that in PA FTF sales of rifles are ok. To buy a gun, with or without a permit, takes all of 10 min. Pick out your weapon, fill out paperwork while salesman makes a call, pay and leave.

Here in PA, gun ownership is pretty uncluttered, but I have one pet peeve. Prior to moving here in the mid 1990's, I used to really enjoy small game hunting with a handgun. Often I would use a 44 mag loaded down with waddcutters, or a scoped .22 semi auto target pistol (S&W #41, High Standard Victor)

Was shocked to find in PA, no semi auto pistols or rifles for hunting of any type, and no handguns over .22 rimfire for small game.

Just have to make do with my scoped 6 inch K-22...:)

In Vermont you can open carry, CCW or basically anything in between. As mention above already as some states I can go in to buy any gun and be out of the store in 15 minutes.

The only rule per say is that you cannot have a loaded rifle in your car/truck and this is mainly to prevent people from poaching deer and such driving around.

Otherwise there is no mag limit, bullet buttons or any requirements for the weapon.

I live in an unincorporated area (that is now surrounded by a town) but even before they were near us, they had a law that says "discharging a firearm within 1 1/2 miles of our borders is illegal." How the hell can they enforce that ? We live in farming country and use to be able to hunt pheasants, ducks, etc. but now that their houses surround us, there's nothing left to hunt.

That sucks! Wish there was a 'don't like' button to click for this one!

Good answer Mike.
It is amazing how much the rules differ between states. It's frustrating
to hear about how some places really are butchering the 2nd Amendment especially when you consider they have such high crime rates and the rules against law abiding citizens will not change anything.
I had an in depth debate with a really good friend about assault rifles, his intentions are good but he cannot see how hard it is to draw a line between what is acceptable and what's not. A person could do just as much damage with hunting rifles as with an AR style, what it boils down to is one is more scary looking which in my opinion is just plain silly. Maybe if they designed a custom AR with a nice wood stock and fancy etching everything would be acceptable lol.
Thanks to everyone that has responded so far, it's a real eye opener and should make the ones who live in a progun state very thankful and wary about how easy it is to lose your rights.

Perchase permit takes three days with a background check good for a year.

We are shall issue now. There's a class to take, background check...Good for 5 years and can also be used as a perchase permit. We have open carry too but no one really pushes that. I could walk down the street with an AK,mags hanging out my pockets and be ok... ...problem is,the phones at the "cop shop" would explode from all the freaked out phone calls. We do have some Gun Free Zones (Bad guy welcome sign),but if caught all they can do is ask you to leave. If you don't leave you can get busted for trespassing.

You can buy out the whole gunstore if you want once you have either permit.

Georgia is a very gun friendly state.IMO I like the ease of acquiring a ccp, and no registration law.

Washington is somewhere in between those mentioned. Suppressors are the only NFA, shall issue state, no waiting period on handguns with CCW, no waiting on long guns. Gun free zones in the usual places. The mayor of Seattle tried banning guns in city parks a couple times but that didn't work out well for him.

To reinforce the situation in TX, I know of no local or state purchase restrictions for adults. The only restrictions I am aware of involve Federal statutes for purchase from a licensee.

Let's see...
Open and concealed carry are OK no license needed.
Instant background check (don't need one with CCW permit), it's cash and carry.
If you want a CCW permit it's a 4 hour course, with mail in renewal.
All NFA items are authorized.
Any size magazine OK for hunting (except migratory birds).
Suppressors OK for hunting.
We earn F- from the Brady Bunch, zero points.
Yeah, Arizona rawks!

Here in Wyoming we're about the same as Arizona except I think suppressors are not legal for hunting. You can have one, you just can't use it to hunt. If you want a CCW for reciprocity with other states, you can get it with an NRA course, but there are several other ways as well. Military service will qualify you, for example, with no course at all. Loaded weapons in vehicles are OK. We're pretty wide open here and we like it that way!

michigan

Here in michigan, it is a shell issue state for a cpl. With a clp you can walk in to a gun pick you hand gun fine out the required federal forms pay your money and your out the door. Ipicked upa gun today it took all of 15 mins. Without a clp you have to go to the local police to buy a permit to purchase. The permit is good fot 10 days i think? The cost of the permit varies depending on the police department, normally $10. After you do purchase a hand gun you have to take a form to your local cop shop. Its not regestering a gun i am told. Michigan is a open carry state but in most cities you will get hasseled. To get a cpl it costs $110 +the cost of a 8 hour class.

What's not to like?

Missouri is good. CCW is a one day thing. Gotta wait a week or so for the Sheriff to do his thing. Open carry is alright except in locales that prohibit it, like my town. Loaded guns in cars is OK. I'm not sure about mag limits, but I only have speed loaders anyways. All in all, it's a pretty gun friendly place around here.
Peace,
gordon

In Nebraska, we have this handgun background check card. You go to the Sherrifs office, apply, pay your $5 and wait a week. Once you have the card, you can purchase handguns and walk out the store with them. Without it, there is a waiting period. If you have a CCW, that takes the place of the handgun card and it is valid 3 years longer. Long guns can be bought by anyone 16 years old with a photo ID. We have open carry in Nebraska as well but we are a bit confusing when it comes to CCW. The state makes it available but certain cities (Omaha) forbid concealed carry in the city limits. I live in a town that also did not permit CCW but once the state passed the availability of the permits, my town decided not to buck the state and face or deal with litigation in the future and changed the ordinance. Public buildings, ie courthouses, schools, post offices, are off limits and businesses can post no weapon signs, but I have yet to run into one.

I can make NYS sound almost good,,,,
Carry concealed. The only restrictions are those imposed by Fed Law (schools, ect). Hunting w/ handgun OK,, big and small game.
Need Pistol Permit. Have had one since 1968. Good for Life, never have to renew it.
No waiting period for purchasing. No restrictions on # of firearms /month you can buy.
Hi-Cap mags OK if made before 1994.

Then you add in the restrictions the judges can hand onto your pistol permit, the time(6mo to 1yr is not unusual) & expense it takes to get one now a-days. Some places have renewals on them,,ect. The NYS AWB is still in place,,mirrors the Fed AWB so you have to be careful about that if thats your interest.
No Full Auto, No SBR,SBS, No Silencers allowed. Who would have thought a State that didn't trust their citizens with sparklers would forbid them full auto firearms too.
They are phasing out the Ballistic Fingerprinting (CoBis) program I understand (sending in the fired casing for matching up to a crime scene). Shockingly, it hasn't worked out.

No such thing as an 'Antique' cartridge handgun. That 1875 mfg Colt SAA goes on a Pistol Permit. One small very gray area allow possession if it's chambered for a cartridge 'no longer available in normal trade'.
Muzzle loading pistols are OK to possess w/o a permit,,,as long as you do not also possess the 'necessary components to load and fire it'. If you do,,it's better be on the Pistol Permit.
So OK, it doesn't sound as good as it did at first.....the leaves are pretty this time of year.

Is that the town's law? I'd like to know how a city can enforce a law outside of its jurisdiction.

The last gun I bought from a dealer in OH, I walked in, filled out the 4473, waited for NICS approval, paid for it, took it home.

The last FTF I gave person cash, he gave me gun, I went home. Well, the transaction occurred at the range so I shot it first.

Full auto and suppressors are legal. CCW is shall issue, although training requirements are a little oppressive: 12 hour class, training certificate is only valid for 6 years. This gets you through one CCW renewal, then you have retrain and get another certificate.

The only strange law I know of is OH defines a semi-auto with a magazine that holds > 30 rounds as a machine gun. Other than that, OH has no extra restrictions above the federal laws.

I haven't tried to buy anything in IN yet.
