Stopped by a gun store while on vacation and they had a 4040PD in the case for $680. The gun is NIB with all the goodies. I don't see these too often and was wondering what the going rate is?

I don't remember even seeing one.
35th BBGV gives it 625.00. Mfg. 2003-2005
I have no idea of its desirability.

I would say that between $600 - $700 for a NIB 4040PD is a fair price, though I bet you could talk them down a bit. Off the top of my head, I've seen NIB 4040's sell for as much as $750 and as little as $475 on Gunbroker over the last few years, but they are not common, even in used condition.

Great little pistol if you get it though, it's my personal favorite .40 cal for CC purposes. S&W is currently still making the recoil springs for this model, and it uses the same grips/mag springs/base plates as the 3913 line.

Only one I'd come across in the last few years had an asking price of $499, but it was used in decent shape... not new (unfired) in box with the works. Foolish me, I didn't buy it. :(

How much for an unfired one in box with everything? I'd have to say $650 to $700 or more if it were in my area. :o

If I were going to use 40S&W as my self-defense round, I would choose a 4040PD hands-down as my carry weapon.

I owned one of these once, and only sold it because I decided to go to 45ACP for SD. It was a great gun, and $680 for a NIB is a good price, not great, but good. These pop up once in awhile in used condition, and that's the kind I would want to buy if I were going to carry it.

This thread reminded me to bring my 4040 to the range today, and I finally have to admit that I do not like TW25b and the 4040PD. It's just too slick for a fast-cycling compact 40 like this.

No matter how little grease I apply, the gun is literally jumping out of my hand with practice ammo, which was not the case with oil in the past. Huge increase in recoil.

Since I'm having the same issue with my K40 and TW25b, I'm going back to oil with all of my small compact .40's.

At that price you should of course have tried to negotiate $50-$100 off. Then immediately bought it at the negotiated price or even the asking price. That's actually a very reasonable price for a NIB 4040PD, and you won't find any other comparable gun made today selling at that price. Although a SIG P239 is I that range and is a fine pistol.

That gun NIB could sell for $700 if the seller can find the right buyer.

Limited market, so it comes down to how fast the seller wants to move the gun. If you really like the gun, and have been looking for one, see if you can talk him down a bit, or at least roll the taxes into the purchase price.

I am a big fan of the 4040PD and that seems to be a fair price. You may be able to get some knocked off, but I would still pay that if I couldn't get a lower price. The 4040 is the perfect package for a concealed 40 cal.

As a side note, I used to have 3 Model 4040's but now I only have 2. They go nicely with my 2 Model 4004's (try finding one of those just anywhere).

Anyway, get the 4040PD you won't regret it.

If somebody needs extra mags for a 4040, I know a LGS that I belive still has a few unopened examples on the self. First PM gets the phone number.

Nice of you to offer the hookup, .455 Hunter. Any 4040PD owners out there should take him up if you can. There's 4040 mags popping up for now, but how much longer will they be making them?

I've also seen them in stock at Brownell's lately, off an on.
