Current policy on “the plug”

Now that S&W is phasing out the IL, has anyone sent a gun in for warrantee service with a plug installed?

I always heard they would replace the lock and charge you for it. (Did anyone actually have that happen?).

Just wondering if the policy changed.

S&Ws policy for guns returned for service that have been modified in any way is to return the gun to the condition it was in "as originally manufactured". There are potential liability issues for the company if they did not properly repair the firearm and returned it to the owner. Because of this I seriously doubt that S&W has, or ever will, change their policy on modifications.

This will just further marginalize and segregate the pre-lock guns from the IL guns.

I saw this happen as a young man in the 1980's when nobody wanted post-1964 Winchester Model 94's and Model 70's...Nobody.

And that was with firearms with no obvious external visible difference like an ugly lock on the left frame.
