So i've decided to take the plunge, and buy a compact Kimber raptor II :-D

I think its very pretty.

However I am not a fan of the cheap snake-skin grips that come on it.

I've been searching for some nice burl-wood grips to go on it, kind of a marble and tan look?

However every burlwood grip set i find that is good quality *between $150-$250*. Seems to be for full sized 1911's......

This does not make me happy lol

Anyone have a source for good hand crafted burlwood grips for compact 1911's? 3 inch bbl?

If so I'm willing to pay whatever it takes, im already dropping $1,200 on the gun, whats another 200? :-)

You shouldn't have to pay anywhere near $150-250 for wood grips for a compact 1911, barring something super exotic or collectible.

I just checked eBay and there are about 700 sets to choose from there. Is Kurac making them for compacts?

Its fun to dress up a nice gun with great looking grips. Makes you feel better when you shoot it. Not a 1911 but a custon 32 with KB Ropers and the other sets I bought. Since I had a lot in the conversion, the gun deserved an nice set of grips. Larry

Thats what im looking for exactly.

Not just wood. Exotic Burlwood. Reclaimed wood, Ancient wood from africa etc. Hence the $150-$250 price tag.

Kind of like these :-) They are from wickedgrips. And are $145.00 However they are only for commander size 1911's :(

I found some full size beauties on eBay years ago,but I learned I prefer checkered grips on a shooter

There are lots of grips out there made of spalted maple, and some other domestic woods. I own four sets, and I don't think I paid more than $35 for any set.

The spalted woods have a look that resembles ivory. They have a fungus in them, causing very unique patterns. They stabilize the wood, and you get great patterns.

Here's a set on my Colt 1911, in .38 Super.
