Can anyone point me in the direction of a good selection of custom grips for my 1911 sub compact?

Not realy sure. I attached a picture of my gun.
I think I would like something in wood, but I'm not sure that a smooth grip is the way to go.
I'm open to suggestions.

Take a look at Eagle Grips website. I have a few j-frame grips I have had no quality issues. They offer alot of options in wood, polymer, and exotics.

I have the same gun. Those Hogue finger grooves are great for shooting, but not for carry in my experience. Clothing sticks to them. I've also tried some basic wood grips that happened to be Kimber grips (gasp!), and I tried some Alumagrips. I've come full circle back to the ones that were on it as it left the factory which are black and have a rough texture. They're rubber or plastic and they don't stick to clothing. I do love the way a rosewood grip looks on an all black gun though. Check out Midway USA, do a search for "officer grips" or something. That should give you some ideas.

You're right about finger grooves being great for shooting. I hate the grips that came on the gun. They feel horrible.

I have several 1911s, and I have put Altamont grips on almost all of them, unless they had a fancy grip on them stock (like my SW1911 e series.)

I've actually been looking at Altamont. They have some ice ones.

Well I found some nice rosewood grip panels bearing the US Army crest. I had to go with those. Oddly enough, they were from Kimber. They look and feel great.

As Requested

Here's a thumbnail. I don't know how to put the big pictures on thins thing.
