I recently received a beautiful Kearsarge Style case (created by Glenn Dean) to house my Quigley engraved, Keith Brown stocked pre-27. I've posted detailed photos of the engraving in a previous thread, but thought you might enjoy seeing the completed package:

Richard, that is a great looking case! I like the S&W logo on the cover too. Is the logo hand carved? It looks like a lot of love and labor went into making it. It strikes me as a cross between a Kersarge and a Huey case. Very nice. -Karl-

Beautiful case Richard!!
The grips and the case compliment each other.

I have been tempted to order one myself.

I have to ask when the gun is laying in the box where do you pick it up initially to handle it? Seems like the most likely spot is by the trigger or guard area.

Rich, you are correct - I use the trigger to pick it out of the case. It lays in the case perfectly - here's a photo of the complete case with the gun flat in the case.

How in the heck did he make that case? Sheer art.

How??? I shared some in-process photos of the case that Glen made for a matched set of SAAs here: Custom Case and Matched Engraved SAA's Likewise, here are a few of the in-process photos of this case (photo credit Glenn Dean of Classic Chests and More):

Glenn sent me some pressure foam to make an imprint of the gun (along with a couple of others that I had him make cases for)...

... from which he made a plaster cast of the gun...

We then decided on the layout in the case...

...and he roughed in the shape...

It was a fun project to be a part of and Glenn was great to work with. He is a talented craftsman whose skill added with Phil Quigley's engraving and Keith Brown's stocks made a complete package that I think turned out very nice.:)

What a great post on how your case was made!

Interesting how he gets the exact dimensions and keeps you in the loop the whole process. You can tweek it along the way to your liking.

Did you pick the blank?

Is there any maintenance on the wood to help keep from warping or wear?

Richard,

With all of the engraved guns you now have, some of them actually being created to your own specifications, over & above all of your factory lettered engraved guns and now combined with beautiful cases such as this one, you have carried all this to a new level.

Congratulations on creating and conceptualizing them.

Nice job!

Tom

Rich:

I did get to pick the wood. But in this case, it was more of, "I'd like a nice piece of walnut". Glenn identified it and sent a photo for approval.

As to the care, Glenn recommended several coats of Briwax. Prior to working the wood, Glenn split it and let it sit for a couple of months to make sure that it would not warp. Fingers crossed that it will continue to stay true.

I really like the complete package. Plus, it comes with a case lock to keep investigating (young AND old) fingers off your gun. I imagine the same key works all 3 cases? (Sorry; beautiful works of art and I'm asking about the locks!!!)
