So lately I have been getting into custom revolvers. I have several from the masters, Ron Powers, Bill Davis, and a few more. Even one I did myself, well two almost.

I am building myself a new PPC type gun, its based on one of the J&G barrel less frames and a stainless bull barrel. I'll give it a good trigger job and it will shoot well I'm sure.

The issue is condition, it looks well, awful. A rusty blue frame with a blast bead stainless barrel. It wont win any beauty contests the way it is. So I am thinking to put one of the new super duper fancy coatings on it.

So while looking at all the choices in coatings, from plain blue/ black to stainless like. Then all the colors of the rainbow are available. I started thinking lets get creative, maybe silver and a WW2 fighter mouth at the muzzle, perhaps some lines like panels and dots rivets? What about a tiger pattern, orange with black stripes...

A tiger gun on the club bullseye line will be interesting...

So I did a quick mock up of it with printed paper. I kinda like it...

What do you guy think, have I lost my mind...

I won't get to finish this till winter so I have some time to come to my senses...

Yes I have better grips...

The cylinder stripes should go the other way, I didnt want to print another page

Heres an example of a nice one...

Yes.

;)

Wouldn't be my choice, by far. Looks too garish. I prefer simple. Black, silver, or two-tone. Maybe a pinto finish?

If you want something creative, maybe Kryptek? I wouldn't get that, either, but I think it'd look better than whatever that is... ;)

Seriously, though, it's your gun. As long as it doesn't render the gun unsafe, do whatever you want. :)

Why? something different, outside the normal, outside my normal comfort zone.

Maybe a bit of psyops at the line...

Because we can?

Fun?

Stuck in the office between calls and nothing better to do?

I have Blued and stainless if it was my wife's maybe I'd make it pink...

I can't say I love it myself, it is just out of the ordinary.

Any of the camo prints wont look good, leopard, nope.

I do like the comments and am not just looking for yes men.

The paint if done in Ceracoat will be expensive, so its nice to have additional input.

Please don't do it. Function and performance are far more important than looks. But if you must do it, at least ask Kellogg's for a sponsorship ;)

If you are considering a full refinish, why not cerakote it in gunmetal gray?! I think Brownell sells a kit you just put in the oven...

I don't like the tiger stripes, was going to say leopard or Cheetah but you already said no to that.

If you haven't already, check out Colors for ALL gun coatings | GunCandy

I like the Stingray color

The Stingray is very modern, Sig(?) uses a theme like it maybe some others too. :)

I was thinking a stainless dull look, then maybe one of the dark burnt bronze colors. I saw a few nice pictures someplace.

At worst I could rattle can something to see how it looks. Just dip it in Acetone and its gone...

The barrel is so big that what ever color it winds up it will get noticed!

I was thinking the Flag motif but worry if its get dirty or makes the flag look bad.

That airplane looks nice, I wonder how well that can transfer...

There are some new fangled printers out there that can reproduce just about any picture or design you can come up with, you can then reduce it to a stencil and Cerakote the design onto whatever. This includes variated surfaces, or surfaces that are not level. I was tempted to have the "Hello Kitty" design put on the magwell of an AR Pistol I worked up, I thought it would be funny...I thought better of it and was talking to my thirteen year old granddaughter. She went out and got a Hello Kitty embroidered patch and sewed it on the AR pistol bag...It gets lots of laughs at the range.
