I didn't know where to put this, but since it's for my No. 3 Russian, here it is.

I picked up this case for an 8 3/8" 629 at a gun show a few months ago for $20. I figured I could use it for something, or buy a gun to fit it! Well, I needed something cool to keep the Russian in, so I found some styrofoam and blue felt and here's the result:

cobretti,
Nice work. Styrofoam and I have disagreed with each other for years. How did you get the cutout so smooth? I always lose chunks of styrofoam and the final project looks terrible. Mike #283

I had some leftover white styrofoam from Michaels and I figured I'd do a practice run with it, but it turned out so nice that I used it. I even taped two broken pieces together with duct tape! Believe it or not, I used a putty knife and just scraped away after tracing the outline of the gun with a black marker and x-acto knife. The key is Elmer's Craft Bond spray adhesive. Great stuff, it works on everything. It makes the felt form to the cut out. I had to trim the top factory foam as the felt made it too wide to fit. I'll remember to do that first next time...
Tip: I had a shop vac going the whole time to pick up the styrofoam I was scraping out. That helped a lot.
