First, let me say I own several S&W firearms...very satisfied.
I ordered a .556 AR15 Sport II with red/ green dot sights. After taking the rifle to the range and not being able to adjust red dot,I had it bore sighted. Back to the range, still not able to group. Put friend's red dot on my rifle and had no problem grouping.

Called S&W. They told me to return sight and they would replace it. Sounds fair. Returned it. 2 1/2 weeks later called Cust service. They received sight, but the red dots were out of stock. When they come in, they'll send one. Not acceptable....been several weeks and can't use new rifle and wasted ammo. I suggested returning the rifle and getting the Spirt II with iron sights. S&W said they'd send me a set of iron sights and follow up with the red dot when it came in. Ok.

2 weeks later, get a package from S&W containing a rear sight...no front sight. Really? Call Cust service again. "We're out of front sights. We'll send one when they come in. No ETA."

Back to square one. Can't use brand new rifle after a couple months Unless I want to buy sights elsewhere on my own. I am disappointed in the lack of back-up for this product.

Sure can't blame ya for being upset. I would be too.
Would certainly expect a quicker resolution on new and cataloged items,
afterall, it's supposedly the premier firearms company in the industry.

That's a blessing in disguise. The red/green dot that comes with the rifle is a *** anyway. Do yourself a favor and buy better optics (red dot or scope), and some Magpul MBUS sights. You're most likely going to upgrade anyway sometime down the road. Do it now and get it over with. You'll be way better off in the long run.

👍🏻

I hear you. Just could not believe that S&W would not come through even with a cheaper iron sight ( they did send an MBUS rear). Somehow I suspect they are still shipping new Sport IIs even though " they ran out of" both red dot and front iron sights.
1 1/2 months and can't use "new" rifle.

After a couple of months I finally received MBUS sights and a week later, a replacement red dot.
That should be the end, right?
S&W sent all 3 in plastic baggies...no manuals, tools, or adjustment key. Again called S&W who told me to contact Crimson Trace and Magpul. CT is not taking calls during the pandemic...had to email. Magpul, thankfully, answered the phone and will get the adjustment key out to me ASAP.
Magpul has good customer sevice. S&W could learn from them!

I bought a package Sport II - MAGPUL MBUS rear sight, Caldwell AR loader and a rifle case (don't see that any more and my toes curl when I see what they are going for now!). Then I looked for a red dot and magnifier and bought a Bushnell TRS-25 and the Bushnell magnifier. Didn't break the bank with those either.

The question I have is: Is it better to zero the red dot and MBUS on the same aim point or separate points (or distances)?

I guess that depends on what you plan on doing. I have both my Aimpoint Micro T1 zeroed at 100 yards along with my Troy BUS. From 100-200 yards, I'd just hold-over accordingly. I used to run a Burris 3x Magnifier with the Aimpoint Red Dot, but diched that system. For any shooting much beyond 100 yards, I'll just pop off the red dot, and pop on my scope (1-6x24). Yeah, all QD accessories are nice to have, for, "just such an emergency"...:D

I could have bought one with a red dot and no irons but I went with one that had irons and no red dot but came with extras and bought a red dot for it.

If and when you decide to replace the red/green dot scope Vortex has some very nice ones, good price and iron clad lifetime guarantee.
