J&G Sales has a bunch of police surplus Smith & Wesson Model 64 38Spl 4in Stainless, Round Butt w/ Bobbed Hammer for $200. I think these would make a great inexpensive snubnose, instead of buying a new one (I prefer S&W brand) for $500 plus.
Can a capable gunsmith do this, or is it a special custom job? Would it be cost efficient to buy one one of these, and get the barrel cut to about 2" to 2 1/2", and find a shorter ejector rod? Or is it more trouble than it's worth?
