My wife recently bought an M&P Bodyguard. 38 Special. She loves it but on examination, she discovered a little slop in the cylinder release when closed. It releases the cylinder just fine but will move forward & back (the slop) when the cylinder is closed.
Is this normal? I've never owned one of these before so I can only compare it to the 66 I had, which had 0% play in the release.
If anyone is familair with this, good or bad, please let me know so we can keep it or swap it. It was bought new. Thanks

What amount is "a little slop" ?

The gun is now used and S&W is your option.

I've never seen one of these in person, and am confused. Where is the latch? Is it that dealie behind the rear sight?

@bigggbbruce...a "little slop" is that the release wiggles forward & back...just a little. It's never been fired (bought it yesterday) & the place I got it will make it good if there's actually a problem, so no, S&W isn't my only option.

@Andy Lowry...yes, it's on the top of the revolver, right behind the rear sight, next to the laser button. She likes it so who am I to tell her different?

Just asking if anyone else has one & if this is just how it is or if I need to return it.

Here's a link to a YouTube video I made of this.

None of my S&W's have that particular style release but there is all little free movement of all the cylinder release latches. They do not sit at rest with any tension on them and can be wiggled slightly. I do not believe you have a problem. Long as it works properly I would just keep an eye on it as you use it and it should remain the same without problems.

This is one of the reasons I've never been interested in the BG38. The cylinder release (as I recall... it's been a long time ago when they first came out) is very loose and unnatural to use (at least for me).

If possible, I would return it and get a 642 or 442. If you really have to have a "plastic" revolver, get the Ruger LCR.

I know what you mean. Not only the cylinder release but the grip as well. Just not for me. If it was for me, I wouldn't have gotten it but it's my wife's. She tried several & this one suited her "taste". She brought the release movement to my attention & I told her I would check on this forum to see if anyone else had this model & if the movement was normal. I'm satisfied it is. She may change her mind about it later but for now, it's made up. She doesn't choose my guns & I don't choose hers. It's better that way. Lol.
Thanks for y'alls input.
