My BIL has a CZ-75BD he’s wanting to sale. I know next to nothing about these guns but his price is fair and it feels good in the hand.

Does anyone here know anything about these Czech handguns?

The CZ-75s have quite the following, and are considered excellent guns. Many in use the world over in military and law enforcement capacities. Stateside they're a little less known, but plenty of serious shooters and EDCers swear by them.

They're DA/SA, which is a system some folks love and many don't. The model in question is a double-stack, all-steel pistol, and as a "BD" designation is decocker only.

What else do you want to know?

I bought a milsurp 75BD from buds a few years ago. I liked it, but for me the POI was different than my M&Ps. I sold it off to put funds toward other toys.

The CZ-75 comes a few flavors. Do you know which one he has? Doesn’t really matter, they are all great weapons. The various clones are good guns, too.

Edit: Oops, now I see it’s a BD. Yes, I would say grab it.

I bought a new one back in the early 90’s that was a pre B mode. If I remember correctly it was marked made in Czechoslovakia not Czech Republic. I sold it a couple of years ago because I no longer used it but during the years I owned it I shot many IPSC matches with it and put many home load thousand rounds through it and can’t recall it ever choking.

At the time I bought it they were hard to get and you had no choice other than the standard fixed sights and SA/DA action. I shot the stock configuration for several years with excellent results but wound up having it converted to SA only and the slide milled for a target front sight and vs a Bomar rear.

If the new ones are anything like the originals, they’re tanks, very accurate and about as durable as you can get. If I were looking for a 9mm today I’d look at a CZ first.

OP don**™t hesitate. Great guns ! I had 2 - a stainless 75B and an 75B SP01. I sold the stainless back to the buddy who I had bought it from. Both had the full action spa package from CZ Custom. Neither of mine are the D decocker version. The SP01 is a brick definitely more of a duty or competition gun. The 75B is a much better choice for concealed carry. The best grips (in my opinion) are the original rubber grips or the Lok Palm Swell Bogie mine are in the grenade texture.

I’ve probably fired more rounds through my SP-01 than I have through any other firearm. It is more accurate than I am, and it has been supremely reliable.

In many thousands of rounds it has failed exactly once, when I was shooting around the left side of a barricade. Turns out it won’t reliably eject cases when you hold the ejection port firmly against a wall.

In short, I’m a fan.

Edited to add: Others have mentioned Cajun Gunworks, so I thought I should add my own praise for their work. My own gun was “Cajunized,” and I can’t say enough good things about the results.

There was gentleman named Cooper that was rather taken with them, his only regret was that they were invented in a communist country and that it was 9mm. He called it the "Brunner pistol".

While I don't currently own one, I've shot them, had them as range guns and worked with folks who were issued them. I also shared beer with a CZ rep in Germany (short story).

They are dependable and accurate. I happen to like The frame mounted safety or decocker (based on variant). They were also making affordable competition semi-autos, but I believe Canik might have displaced them from the most affordable position.

CZ has been making some significant acquisitions as of late, Dan Wesson, Colt, S&B, etc. They are a quiet powerhouse. Their parent company is also a european defense contractor.

A couple of years ago, I sent my CZ75B to Cajun Gun Works. Have you heard the hype about Cajun Gun Works? It’s all true.

CGW did a trigger job, sights, and a bushing. And I don’t think it needed a bushing, but the bushing was relatively inexpensive and since they had it anyway….

My lightly modded gun will put 5 shots in an inch and a half group, from a rest at 25 yards. It has never malfed. Recoil is light and pretty straight back.

Take advantage of your brother in law. Buy his CZ. Never sell it back.

I had all but given up finding a 9 mm other than a High Power that I like enough to keep until trying a CZ 75. To me the decocker is a great feature for a carry gun. First shot DA trigger pull is long similar to a revolver with the following shots being SA for a quick light trigger pull. Mine eat every type of ammo I can find without fail.
