Anyone else having D ring problems. After I removed my standard hand guard (which was a bear) I installed a UTG handguard. Trying to get a good fit between the new Handguard and the D ring was very tough. I never did get what I'd consider a good fit where the guard meets the D ring. I have the D ring tool so I wasn't forcing anything. Is it possible that the spring could be blocking something or ???

Thanks

Sorry but the D ring is a pretty simple piece of machinary. UTG on the other hand is not know as a piece of precision engineering.

I'd take the handguards, old and new, and closely compare the ends.

I have one AR-15 in my arsenal (RUGER AR556) that has a threaded delta ring. Talk about simplicity.
For my other AR's I use the handles of a large set of channel locks to spring the hand guards.

Thanks, as I now have looked at the barrel nut/D ring clearance it is a bit tight. So, if the new part is the least bit thick it won't go in as cleanly as You'd like. I also think that using the "squeeze" tool could deform the D ring so as to complicate things further. I'm probably just the guy who fell victim to the old "stacked tolerances" gremlin.

Besides being simple the D ring is a thick chuck of steal. It's really not possible to squeeze and deform it with hand tools. You'd have to use a press, and a damn big one at that, to damage it.

I'd recommend sending the UTG back where it came from and going with Magpul

I have 3 UTG handguards and all are excellent, to include a quad-rail which is a delta-ring model. Their HGs are made in the US and I've found their quality and fitment to be very good. Delta rings can range from extremely easy to manipulate to being next to impossible; mostly depending on the spring.

If you plan to use an extended hand guard just remove it. It's super easy. I removed mine with a punch and a hammer in 3 seconds. I saved it and can re-install it if I choose. just look it up on youtube. It's so easy.

Ummm they're not talking about the sling D ring. They're talking about the Delta ring.

I just put a drop in UTG quad rail on mine. It was a piece of cake.
