Well yesterday I took the plunge at bought my 1st damascus knife along with it being my 1st ever non folding E D C knife. It came from a local knife bulider in Saint Augastine. I know yall want pictures I just dont know how to do to this board from phone. It has an awsome blue grip on it and came with leather sheath. It messaures . Blade is 4.5 inches by1.5 wide over all length is 9 inches. This knike didnt break the bank either Got it for $ 40.00 .Any thing I need to watch about blade should I oil it? Your thoughts on these knifes please?

For $40 I have doubts if a local built it, unless taking a Pakistani Damascus blade and putting a handle on it is considered making it. To forge a real Damascus blade takes hours of work and the builder would be working for less than minimum wage at that price.

I would definitely keep oil on the blade, or a good wax job, and clean it frequently. I like Damascus, it can be beautiful, and the more intricate the pattern the more work it is to create.

I have a blade made by one of my Sergeants who took an old tow cable we used to pull our tanks and he took it and forged a Damascus blade for me. I then took this blade and submerged it for a while to ensure that if there were any voids or separations it would be well lubricated for a long time. I sincerely was impressed by his skill and touched by his gift. Take care of it for decades of use.

Using five different steels and forge welding it takes five folds to make
160 layered patterned welds. By hand that takes at least 4-5 hrs. With
a power hammer about 1-2 hrs. Wish I had a power hammer.
So yes, $40.00 sounds to cheap, maybe the guy, like me sometimes,
needed the money.

Take a pic with your phone, then email it to yourself and download it. Then you can post it from your computer.
