I saw a 4" 586 today with a standard spurred hammer, but it was DAO. Most likely the SA notch had been ground off and it was also likely a PD trade in.

How common is this for 586's? Does anyone have or has seen a DAO 586?

Many model 64s and 65s, but I have not heard of a DAO 586. Do you know with which LE agency it might have served?

At one time I had either a 581 or a 586 DAO with Hammer Spur for holster retention. It was I believe an Indiana Highway Patrol gun. The dealer had 2 of them, one had a Badge Number, and the one I bought did not, and was As New. Probably a spare. I should have kept it.

My neighbor gal has a 4" Model 10 DAO that also has a hammer spur.

The gun is not marked in any way, the gun shop owner doesn't know anything other than a guy traded it towards a rifle. It has holster wear consistent with a trade-in and it's unlikely a private owner would convert it to DAO and leave the hammer spur, but you never know.

I already have 2 581's and a 586-1 6" and have no way to justify buying this right now:) I am a fixed sight revolver fanatic and my 581's fit the bill for me!

Stan, I don't know if you have the SCSW or someone has looked for you, but when I get mine back in a couple days, I'll look see if any were noted in the book.

I'm with you, I prefer fixed sight revolvers.

SCSW has nothing regarding DAO on the 586 that I saw. Sounds like an interesting piece, does it have a model # on the box?

There's no box, it seems to be that the DAO was done after the gun was made.

I have also seen 67's that had spurred hammers but were DAO. Some PD's required their issue guns to be DAO for liability, because they didn't trust their officers to be able to cock a revolver:rolleyes:

I seem to remember a couple of the various tribal police depts. out west that had DAO586s or 581s back in the 80's/early 90's.
