DAO firing pin removal

How do you remove the firing pin and spring from a 3rd gen DAO S&W auto. I've done it on the DA/SA models but can't figure out the DAO procedure.

Disassembly of the slide components and removal of the firing pin retainer is the same as in the SA/DA models.....except there are no levers on the firing pin retainer plug.

Depress the firing pin safety lever plunger, push the firing pin fully forward and push the f.p. retainer out the left side of the slide.

Thanks for the prompt responses. I have been trying to figure out how to rotate the de-cocker like I did with the 39

After the firing pin is pushed forward out of the way, you should be able to rotate the plug down (if needed) by pinching it with your thumb and index finger, and turning it downward.

If the firing pin is fully forward and completely out of the way, the plug should push straight out, without having to turn it down. There is a plunger and spring in there.

I hold the firing pin fully forward by clamping the tip that is extended out of the breechface with a hemostat.

The hemostat on the firing pin is the procedure that I use.

Makes the job a lot easier.
