Dash-0 designation

I saw in another post that some here have never seen a -0 on a S&W. Well, for your enlightenment, here is a photo of the 627-0 model stamp on my 627 Model of 1989:

Some guns did get the -0 for whatever reason, 99.5% didn't. I assume it makes no value difference whether it's stamped -0 or just nothing there.

I am not aware of any other model that this is the case. I have also not seen any other -0's

627-0 had "357 S&W magnum model of 1989" roll stamped on the right side of the barrel, a bigger cylinder stop notch, unfluted cylinder, checkered top strap, chromed hammer and trigger, only 5000 were made.

The no dash I believe did not have the "model of 1989" on the barrel, and did not have an unfluted cylinder standard (all of them I think). Not sure about how many of these were made.

The 627-1 had a tapped barrel and they discontinued the chromed trigger and hammer and "model of 1989" roll mark and I think they discontinued the fully checkered topstrap. I think the cylinder was fluted, but unfluted was optional.

Maybe I should have said "engineering revision" rather than "different model"

I love this board...I'm always learning something. Mine is definitely the Model of 1989.

Yeah, I forgot about the longer stop notch. Doesn't seem a good reason to put a -0 there though.

I looked at two 342's at a local gun shop last year. One was marked "342", the other "342-0". The clerk and I looked both guns over carefully and couldn't see any difference between them. That and the 627-0 are the only two "-0's" I know of.

According to the SCSW, and I'm going from memory, 274 no dash 627's were made and 4700+ 627-0's were produced. Someone with the book in front of them could correct me. They are beautiful guns and great shooters. It is the only non-P&R "N" frame I own. Happy new year to all. May the world become a better place.
