The first Highway Patrolman shipped was S103500, 4/54. I also list another nearby HP, S1063xx, shipped in 5/54. Yours probably shipped in that range.

I'm still searching for a 5-screw HP, preferably a first year '54 (happens to be my birth year, too). I've got some 28-2s, but those are the earliest I've been able to collect. Was there an option for Coke Bottle stocks or Target stocks on the early HPs, or were they all Magnas like mine are wearing?

Yes, target stocks could be ordered, one if my HPslettered with targets. S&W is still in the buisness to make money and they offered target stocks alone packaged to sell in gun shops.
If you find an HP in the factory box, deep enough to hold the gun and close with the Target Grips it's probably factory shipped that way.

Shipped 9/3/54 to Seattle Hardware Co. Serial S116413. I was born in Seattle 7 months later. Holster and stock wear makes me wonder if used by police.
