Date check 36-1 3”

I have an unfired 36-1 3" w/ no box or papers. Serial number is J360979. Can somebody please provide a date on this?
Thank you!

It looks like 1976 from the book . . . others may be keeping track of actual shipping dates and able to get closer.

I bought my first 36-1 in October 1966 and still find it (and similar 3" heavy barrel J-frames) to be the most natural pointing and shooting revolvers made.

Enjoy yours,

Russ

Thank you very much! I've had it for over 20 years and I've teetered from time to time on whether to shoot it or not. You are right in that it is a natural pointer. It has such clean and classic lines too!

Howdy fishwishin!

The two on my list that bracket yours are

J357391, 3", shipped February 1975

&

J377857, 2", shipped November 1975

We know S&W didn't ship them in serial number order so you can make an educated guess that yours might have shipped between these two (or it might have sat in the vault for several years).

Hope this helps.

Which finish, barrel length and butt (round or square) is yours?

Thank you for the information sir!

Mine is a 3" blued round butt. I'll try to post a picture up later on.
(By the way, I'm envious of your location!)

Here is the picture of my 36-1 as promised.
