As you may have guessed by now all guns are dated by their ship dates. Reason is serial number marked frames could remain in vaults for long periods of time, sometimes years before they were actually sold and shipped and were always way out of of sequence. Smith had no rhyme or reason for what they pulled a gun out of the vault, it was basically whatever they happened to grab first. Collectors were never in their considerations, they were just out to make money and turn product. Therefore, the factory and the BATF dates them from ship dates when the paper trail starts.
