Date for Model 66-2

Hey folks! I’m new to the forum and relatively new to S&W revolvers. I have a model 66-2 serial number AES1 XXX. I know it was made sometime between ‘82-‘86 but curious if anyone can help me figure out the exact year of manufacture? Thanks for any information you can share!

Seems like probably 84-85 per the 4th edition and 5th edition. Neither one of them specifically lists AES but there are a lot of other AE= numbers listed in those two years.

If you have the revolver’s original box with intact end label, we can date it right down to a month, day and year.

You can call S&W but they quite often poo in the bed. You can call them on the phone 3 times and get between 1 and 5 answers. So if you have that kind of patience, call them up.

Better is to send an e-mail and typically you’ll get a reply in 2 business days.

All that said, if I were dared to make my best guess based on your serial number, I will say late September to maybe late October of 1984. Just my guess.
