Date of Manufacture??

Assuming you have a model of 1899, its about a 1900 to 1901 gun. The 1899's
are characterized by no lug under the barrel. The end of the extractor rod just
hangs there, under the barrel, with a solid knurled knob on the end of it.

What is the barrel length, and finish, and sight configuration ? Also, is the
serial number on the butt, on the rear face of the cylinder, and under the
barrel, if there is a flat area there ?

Mike:

I looked at teh 38 last night.

The serial number is on the butt. I did not check the cylinder to see if it has the sn on it also. There is a lug under the barrel to protect the ejector rod.

I believe it has a 2" barrel, and the finish is blued.

With a barrel lug, it's not a Model 1899 and there should be a letter prefix that goes with the number on the butt. What is it?
