just picked up a 380 Bodyguard with insight laser can I use the serial # to date it

Smith & Wesson exchanged my Insight Laser for the Crimson Trace laser, no cost to me. not sure if they are still doing that, but it is worth trying. the Crimson Trace is an excellent laser.

Call S&W Customer Service with your serial # for the date of manufacture. The Insight Laser was recalled by S&W a good while back due to numerous problems and a free Crimson Trace Laser was sent. If your Bodyguard is a preowned model registered by the original purchaser, you're probably out of luck for the free upgrade. Good luck with your Bodyguard!
