Found a Model 49, no dash w/a Tyler grip adapter at a local gun show. I've always wanted one of these "ugly ducklings" and finally found one at an acceptable price. The S/N is: AAV84XX. Could anybody tell me the approximate date of manufacture/shipment? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info, Doc. I own a number of J frames, but this one feels exceptionally comfortable. I haven't gotten to the range yet, but the view under the sideplate appears to be unmolested.

I've been "Dating" a Model 47 (late 60's) for about 15 years! She doesn't eat much, Just Speer 135 gr. Short Barrel +P. She's not put off by being in my pocket every day and night. She has never come out to play with strangers that were looking to get "Up Close and Personal", but when I went to introduce her to them, they decided to be elsewhere in a hurry!

I really like them now! I used to think they were ugly little boogers and never wanted one. I have had a couple of different Centennial models, the last being an M&P 340. I sold it because it just wasn't that much fun to shoot. I found a 649ND in excellent shape. It's much more pleasant to shoot. I would love to have a 49 as well. Enjoy.

I never had any desire to own one, until one of my gunstore scouts said - hey we just took in something you might like.

It was love at first sight. It is now my favorite snubbie.

two-bit-cowboy, you are absolutely correct but I insert that for those who do not know that and probably think that all 649's are alike.
