Decisions, decisions...

So...work's been busy this season and I've racked up some OT.

I'm pretty sure I can afford 1 more S&W before I start my New Year's fiscal-and-physical-fitness plan.

My only problem right now is that there are too many pistols to choose from! I figured I'd have y'all weigh in

Looking for advice as to scarcity/collect-ability (not really looking for an investment, just don't want to see the gun for $300 more next year lol) , shoot-ability and overall "best deal".

All the prices are "asking prices". I think it's rude to negotiate if you aren't ready to buy. Here goes:

1076 w/KYSP markings...no price, ad says "make offer"

Nickel 39...asking $450

59 with 2 mags...asking $350

457 with 2 mags...asking $425

There's also a 6946 in a LGS that could probably be had for $400 but there's +tax and stuff...

There's also a 457 w/4 mags on GB that's actually an FFL an hour away. I bid $365 and didn't hit the reserve. Didn't bid higher because I wasn't sure that's what I wanted. Again, it would be +tax and stuff...


I can afford and would be happy with any of these. My only issue is that it's going to be my last pistol purchase for a while. I love my 669 and it's probably going to be my 'primary shooter'. I'd just like to hear what some other S&W enthusiasts would choose. Thanks!

Wow that is a tough one. Not sure how much you are working with for money, but I would rule the 1076 out, as I would assume it would be well above the other prices listed--if you can get it in the price range of the other guns listed it would be my choice. Not being a fan of blued guns, which would place the 59 & 457 lower on list. I'd lean towards the nickel 39 and 6946. Final eliminating factor, would be that I am not a fan of DAO, so for me I would lean towards the nickel 39. Just my assessment.

If you are looking for a gun to defend yourself than I think the 457 is the best on the list. BUT a 457 with two mags in reasonable condition is only worth $350 - $360. The stainless steel model is worth about $50 more.

Hi Chefjon,

This would be an easy choice for me-the nickle 39, no doubt about it. It's a classic and classy gun, even more so in nickel, and the grip is one of the most comfortable I've ever held.

If the gun is in nice condition, $450 is a bargain. A local shop I deal with frequently-and whose prices are fair-had one for $600 that sold fast. It may not rise in price by a few hundred dollars next year, but it will rise in value steadily over the next several years.

The 39 is a single stack with an 8 round magazine, but if that's enough bang in the handle for you, the 39 would be my reccomendation.
