Make sure to turn your set screws the right direction when you remove your factory comps and be sure to clean the pile of lead off the end of the barrel and out of the groove and these should be a clean fit.
Funny you should mention that. I went through all my X-frame comps today cleaning/lubing everything. Can't wait.

Got mine......

Yesterday and it would not quite fit. It would only go in about half way.

I studied it and measured but did not want to start filing on it and contacted Wes. He very readily agreed to send me another and offered to refund my money if I wanted it.

Today I decided to study it again and discovered the problem was probably the diameter of the bushing barrel in the "grooves", which receive the 500s "lands". It miked out to about .002 more in diameter.

After about 20 minutes of careful filing with small files the "Non" compensator went in and can be removed with finger pressure.

I immediately took it out and put some light and heavy loads through it and to say it is a pleasure to shoot is an understatement.

My hearty thanks go out to Wes and his effort in making my 500 a much better toy!!!

My 4" fit perfectly. My 8", I got slightly less engagement than you. Every one of my factory 500 comps (4 total) fits equally well between both guns, and both of Wes' fit PERFECTLY in my 4", but my 8" one is just a no-go. Awaiting feedback from wes, but it sounds like your solution may be mine as well. I thought it was a few thousands too long perhaps for my 8" as it appeared that it was hitting on the front of the catch lugs, but it may indeed be too large diameter for my 8". I'm sure it is a hair's width given that 6 comps fit in my 4", but only 4 comps (all factory) fit in my 8". Very odd IMHO. And yes, the 8" was sparkle clean.

Edit: Wanted to be perfectly clear here, the variation is the GUNS, not Wes' comps. His comps seem identical.

I got one. I really like it. My 4" is now very similar to my 5" JRS, and I like that.

Own a 4 inch and the Lew Horton 6 1/2 versions. Will your comp fit both of these? If so, I'll take one. Please pm me with me payment info or email at [email protected]
Thanks!

I had an experience similar to that reported by GIrine45 -- the unit would rotate freely part way (about 75 degrees out of the required 90) and then bind before moving completely into position. It would not rotate at all if I put it in 180 degrees around and turned it in the other direction. I also solved the problem by using the edge of a smooth mill file to remove some steel from the high end of the "slot" between lug pairs on the unperforated comp by about a thousandth of an inch. (A micrometer showed that the slot diameters on the comp varied from one end to the other by about .002".)

If the barrel unit on my 4" 500 had been just a little more accommodating -- and based on what I read here some seem to be -- there would have been no problem at all.

I didn't even contact Wes about the situation. Clearly there was a simple fix, so I just looked until I recognized it. I am completely satisfied with the no-hole comp and look forward to shooting the gun on my next range trip.

pm sent, can you email me back asap so i can com-form a payment and get the ball rolling?

After getting the solid comp for my 4", I did the functional equivalent of that on my 6 ½" 500 PC Hunter by sleeving the comp with 1" x.035" stainless tubing. I may not get to try it until next week.

Finally installed this comp on my 4 inch. It fit dang near perfect. Finger pressure fit it about 75% of the way then I wrapped some padding around a set of pliers and snugged it in place.
Have not shot it yet but very impressed with the worksmanship.
Thank you
