Deltapoint Pro on M&P CORE

Part 4 so here you can see the problems after the fact. My department will not allow me to alter the weapon at all so I can not mill /lathe the upper. Even without a baseplate the Deltapoint Pro is too high and covers the rear sites so no OEM cowitness.

Rather than mill the slide which you are not allowed to do, have you looked at milling the sight slightly? From the pictures it looks like only a very little amount would need to come off the front.

I'm about to have to deal with this same problem.

Leupold DP Pro on S&W M&P CORE

Yes, it is totally do-able. I make adapter plates for mounting these. They are $225 right now but if there was a demand for a bulk order of them I could get that price down. All American Firearms in Columbus GA, Welcome or 877-697-6446.

Another solution...

I posted my solution to the mounting problem in a new thread titled "Success! DeltaPoint Pro Mounted on my CORE!"

I hope it will be helpful to some of you.

Successfully Mounting Deltapoint Pro on S&W M&P Core

I was able to grind down the type 2 plate that was included with my core to accommodate the longer Pro. I also had to file of some of the aluminum housing on the front of the site so it would drop in properly. I then purchased longer mounting bolts at true value. The whole thing took about 1 hour.

I purchased the pro because I assumed it would just fit. When I realized it wasn't going to and that neither s&w or leupold had a solution I decided to make it fit. I did not want to modify the core. I'm pretty happy with the final result. I might pickup some black paint to make it look more finished.

An important thing to note with my solution is that the type 2 plate has 4 posts that work with the pro and make it very secure. I'm not expecting any problems keeping it zeroed.

I like the way you made it work, I still think Leupold had a cranial rectal inversion when they designed the DP Pro.

Thanks. I agree that they screwed up. The big flaw was the way the front of the site is extended/rounded, which needed to be filed flat. That was really bad design. If they had just extended the back, a new plate could have easily been made by either company.

The Trijicon fits perfectly and co-witnesses. It's the highest quality optic. Tell me again what the Delatpoint Pro has that the Trijicon doesn't?
If you want a Red Dot on the slide of a pistol, the Delta Point is the only dot out there at the moment that works. The Trijicon Amber and Green are fine since there is no battery involved. I have several Amber and Green Trijicons and they work 100%. We've burned through several Red Dot (battery powered) Trijicon's and know others that have as well. Trijicon is trying to fix them, but so far the Delta Point is the only Red Dot that works and will survive on the slide of a pistol.
You may get away with putting brand "X" red dot on a pistol slide, but they will only last for a limited number of rounds. Leupold found this out and seems to have shock proofed the Delta Pro good enough to last.

Now if S&W or Leupold would come out with a damn mounting plate for the Pro on the CORE I could actually mount it. I've only been waiting a freaking year.

My Trijicon red dots work fine slide mounted. I have one on my Sig P226 and another on my M&P CORE .40. Several thousand trouble free rounds. Proper installation of the baseplate is essential.

You don't know me, not an install issue.
We've taken them from the factory shaker table and broke them in <100 rounds. 9mm, 105PF loads.
Give it time, it will break.

I emailed Leupold and this is the response I got last Wednesday about the Pro model mounting on a CORE....

That will fit the core, if you purchase our CORE mounting plate. Part #171203. If you cant find it online, you can give us a call @1800-Leupold and we can get you set up.

I couldn't find one online so I called them. It's $60, but they don't have any and had no idea when they would get more. They gave me the name of another company that makes them, but their web site said prices start at $160; that's crazy.

So now I'm looking at the Vortex Venom. I don't want a dot bigger than about 3MOA and I don't want to have to remove the sight to change the battery. Co-witness is not really a big deal with me. I guess it's questionable if the Venom will co-witness a C.O.R.E.

I'm a Leupold fan, but they really missed out on this one. The C.O.R.E ships with several mounting plates, one of which I assume fits the standard DeltaPoint; you would think they would have designed the new PRO to either fit that plate, or include a new one. Maybe they will figure it out by the next gen.
