Our 2011 Honda Accord's trunk lid got dented. A Sony 500A reel-to-reel tape player fell on it(!) Took it in for two estimates today.

Both guys said the "Accord" and "V6" badges will break when removed and must be replaced. The Accord badge is $64 and the V6 badge is $48! The entire truck lid will have to be repainted, of course.

I can remove them on a hot day with a dull putty knife W/O damage to them. So what is I scratch the paint a little, chances are about 75% I wouldn't scratch the paint. They are stuck on with double sided tape. Run from the dealership.

Have you tried the old toilet plunger/suction cup trick? I've popped out some fair sized dents after seeing it done in a body shop. Doesn't cost anything to try.

BTW Ebay has the Accord emblem for 15.99 and the H for 13.88

I didn't see the V6 but only took about a minute to look those up. There was more also.

I don't know if they were factory but I did see one advertised as factory at about 22 bucks.

The Honda emblems would have to be retaped and would be hard to trim with a razor blade and look the same as new ones. They wouldn’t stay on too long either. It’s easier to say they would break. The damage is close to the edge, grinding to repair and priming would take it over the edge to the top. The whole trunk would have to be painted. If they could stay on the back part and not have a continuous clear coat, the clear could peel with time.

Gonna guess the repair is 850.00. I retired from body work 2 years ago. Hated the job but now it’s all better. Just had my knees replaced 7 weeks ago from the work I did. Larry

Take a piece of dental floss. Tie each end to,a stick. Warm the emblem with a heat gun are real good hair dryer. Use the floss to,cut the tape lose. Go see the painless dent repair guys. You will be surprised

FWIW I replaced a fender on a Dodge from a different year but compatible series in the right color and after that had two different trim level badges right beside each other and I didn't care and few if anybody even noticed.

Get the check from the insurance company for the estimate but keep the claim open and shop around for other estimates. I fixed my wife's Mustang so you couldn't tell it had been hurt for half the estimate and pocketed the difference

LKQ or somebody will have a matching color paint deck lid badged right for about half what a new one costs and you can likely put it on yourself.

Regards JD

Would I want to salvage the emblems? No! It's a '11 Honda.

If I did, You or I would have to look real hard to see my tape job. Most people wouldn't see it.

I've never had one fall off and I've salvaged plenty. Dollars in my pocket.

Dental floss...heat em up with hair dryer or heatgun.

Put peanut butter on adhesive residue and it will wipe off.

Saving badges is not cost effective unless its a square or similar.
Dent is on the rt side so if it is a difficult color then a blend on the quarter and roof rail is possible.
Everything that touches whatever is being painted comes off.
I tell every one of my customers, nothing happens in a body shop cheap or quick.

Consider this, is the car in real nice shape for a 7 yr old car? Low miles, good interior? If so then it might be worth it. Otherwise you don't repair it and another ding and another. Pretty soon your ride is nothing but a beater.
Or is it high miles with faded paint? Not worth it then.

Choice is yours, the main thing is being able to trust your car day in day out.

A lot depends on where you live. My neighbor just ran off the road in his corvette. I looked like the front right corner was damaged and nothing else. The repair estimate was $17K.

So, I'm going to guess at least $2K on this one.

I'd get the check from the insurance company to repair it then take it to one of the paintless dent removal places. You'll come out way ahead and they can probably fix that to the point that even you won't be able to find the damaged spot.

I had two cars that got dinged all over in a hail storm. Th insurance company gave me a check for $4900, and the paintless dent removal place fixed them both for $1700.
