Good morning ya'll,

I'm sure you've heard it. Or not. But apparently the Detonics MTX is considered to become a new military sidearm. Some say it's just a rumor.

My 1st hand contact @ Detonics says that they are "in the running" for a DOD contract!

If the MTX is ugly or not doesn't matter. Form follows function. And as long as it works and they (DOD) get it for the price they want, Detonics might get a good shot at it.

I wish them luck!

Form follows functional requirements. After almost 20 years with Lockheed Martin, I can tell you that potential bidders will be carefully scrutinizing the requirements in the RFP and basing designs on those with an eye on what the "price to win" should be. For example, if the requirement specifically calls for a beaver tail grip safety, then one will be in the design. If it's not, and it's cheaper to go with the standard grip safety, then the standard will be bid. If I was the capture manager on this bid, I'd go with a COTS design, team with the OEM (if it wasn't my product) manufacture it as cheap as I could to get the cost down, to the point of actually losing money on the pistols themselves, and then make all the profit on spare parts that were only available through my company.
