What would be a reasonable price for a set of Diamond, J Frame, Round-Butt grips. I'm trying to find a set for my new (to me) Model 36 and want to make sure the price is right.

Thanks.

David

Pitdog02,

Since the pistol has some honest wear, a flawless set would look out of place. What would do you think a worn but clean set would go for.

LEO918,

I wish I could find that kind of deal! What would you consider an average price for a worn but clean set?

Thanks.

David

Condition is everything, of course, but I'd say a fair price for a set showing some minor wear matching your gun would be around $35.

i would definitely think you could find a decent set for 35ish. i would post in the "wanted" section of the forum. i bet someone would come up with a pair for you.

ar15ed,

I did and received an offer for a pair for $40 or another pair for $45.

I'll keep looking for now.

Thanks.

David

I won a pair on e-bay last night. Depending on their condition on arrival, the hunt may be over.

Stay tuned, grip-fans, for more exciting details.

Hope the stocks you found on ebay are exactly what You're looking for.

FWIW: I've bought a few sets of S&W stocks at local gun shows, and the gun show prices were more reasonable than those generally found online.

If you don't need diamonds, I have a two pair of magna's for sale in the accessory section- one RB PC's and the other SB PC's- both real nice- $35 /shipped

Great little pocket toy you got there- we used to call them our six round speed loader- only pulled out in case of catastrophic failure of our primary weapons.

Varangi,

Thanks for the offer, but I have my heart set on diamonds.

David

Won't let me post twice in a row.

Well, the grips arrived. They are gently worn but otherwise excellent condition. I'll try to post pictures later.

Front and back they fit almost perfectly, but the bottom of the grip frame sticks out almost 1/4" below the grips. These must have been for a smaller frame revolver.

Anyone have any idea what they are for? The inside of the right hand grip panel is marked 11276.

So, I'm sill on the lookout for reasonably priced J Frame Diamond Grips.

David - the error is actually in your favor. The grips you bought are for I frame. I'm sure that you'll have no problem trading them for a {NICER} set of J Diamonds.
Put them in the classifieds w/ a good picture.
I's are much harder to find than J's and worth more.

VM,

Cool! Usually my luck runs the other way. Thanks for the information.

Here are some images for confirmation. What do you think they are worth?

David - those are definately I frame. They are worn pretty good and I don't know what you paid for them, but I still think you can trade them for a nicer pair of J diamonds.

whoo hoo! with that serial number, they had to be on a baby chief. way too low to be a 32 or a terrier. man, i bet whoever has the gun would LOVE to have them.

i think i would post the serial number on here (1896-1961 forum!) for a while, and see if the owner of the chief pops up. i don't have a nice set of diamond magnas at the moment, but i will look for a set for you. i have a gunshow the next two weekends, so i will have a good shot at finding some.

ar15ed,

Are you referring to the .32-20 WCF Hand Ejector Second Model (Model of 1902 - 1st Change)? That's how it's listed in the Blue Book of Gun Values.

I'm still learning the Smith & Wesson nomenclature and want to be sure I list the grips accurately in the WTS/WTT forum.

Thanks.

David

Good idea. Thread posted to the 1896-1961 forum.

Thanks.
