When did S&W stop using the "Diamond Screw Hole" Grips on the M&P/Model 10 and Model 15 .38 Specials?

Chris,
Would it be your estimation, then, that non-diamond grips on a model 10-2 made in 1961 were replacements?

I would make that assumption. Pull the grips and see if there is a serial number stamped or penciled on the back. If there is a number there that doesn't match the serial number on the butt, then for sure replacement grips. If there is no number, no sure way to tell. S&W did weird things over the years.

Absolutely.
Also, stocks through that period will have the serial number inside one of the panels. If it doesn't match the sn on the bottom of the grip frame, then they are from another gun.
