Last night, a friend of my wife's told her he was looking to sell his .44 Magnum and wanted to know if I'd be interested. I went to see it today planning to give him some advice on how to sell it and get the best deal, but it came home with me instead.

WHAT I GOT: A 6" S&W 29-3 in 95% condition. It has a minor scratch on the cylinder and a minor scratch on the barrel. There is a small nick on the grip, but other than those small defects it looks brand new. He found it when his father passed away and was pretty sure it was unfired. He shot it for his concealed carry (Yes, I know... that had to have been funny) but that is the only time he shot it.

WHAT I GAVE UP: A 3rd Gen Glock 17 with about 500 rounds through it. I'd added the OEM extended slide release lever, grip plug and Meprolight night sights. I threw in 5 mags and $100 cash.

I gave up my nightstand gun (my G19 is there now) for a gun I had no practical use for, but it is just cool. I feel like I got a decent deal because if I regret it later I think I could sell it and at least break even. How do you guys think I did?

MAJOR UPDATE ON PAGE 2!!

Great deal in my opinion. Glocks do their job but they are not in the same league as a quality N frame S&W from earlier era's.

Anytime you can trade Tupperware for a real gun is a great deal. I think you will enjoy the 44 for sure.

Sir, I think you did terrible. I will take the 29 off your hands since you wont shoot it anyway. LOL. Seriously, I think you got a great revolver.

I think you did well!! You can always get a Glock...( I own many) but to get a CLASSIC S&W 44mag is worth it!!!

I would estimate you came out north off $200 on the positive side. Nice trade!

nothing beats a SMITH revolver.....look at it like this.....no feed problems...no stove pipes, if you have a NO strike on the primer JUST PULL THE TRIGGER AGAIN...................scott

Well, I think this might be a personal record. I really liked the 29, but decided I just really prefer stainless revolvers. So... this afternoon, I traded the S&W 29 for a Ruger Redhawk.

Ouch! I just bought a Model 29-8 (Dirty Harry Commemorative) and shot it for the first time last weekend. In a word AWSOME. Nothing wrong with the Ruger but I would have hung onto the Model 29. Mine now has a VERY special place of honor among my firearms. Enjoy the Ruger...

Well....now you screwed up. I had a stainless 5" Redhawk .44. Sold it then finagled a deal on a no dash 6" 629. The Ruger had a so-so action, not so good fit and finish, and a lot of excess weight. The 629 has a super smooth action, excellent fit and finish, and something no Ruger will ever have....class.

But, it's your gun, so what ever trips your trigger. One positive about the Redhawk is that they are durable and will take some abuse.

I may be gone for awhile. I think I need to go to the emergency room. Surely I just had a coronary!!

Wow! The fanboy stuff is getting thick here. Does it make you guys feel any better that my 2.5" 686-4 is still my favorite revolver in my safe? I do realize that money-wise, I traded down this time, but I got the stainless, durable revolver I wanted. I wanted a heavy caliber revolver to go bang around in the woods with and shoot a LOT. The Redhawk seemed like a better fit than a pre-Endurance Package 29 for this job. Here's my favorite... just to get me somewhat back in the good graces of the followers of the might S&W.
