Received an email from my auto insurance company, USAA.

"One result of the COVID-19 pandemic is fewer drivers on the road and fewer accident claims, so we're returning a portion of your premium to you. You will receive an auto policyholder dividend equal to 20% of two months of auto insurance premiums. There is no need to call or take any action. To keep it simple, the following amount will be credited to your next bill:"

Very nice surprise. I'm sure glad I have USAA as my auto insurance company. I wonder how many other insurance companies will be giving refunds?

Not a refund, but I've been told I'll be getting a discount at my next policy renewal. They did say that customers who've already renewed their policies will be getting the discount as a refund.

Seems most insurance companies that are offering a discount are only giving it for a 2 month period. GEICO is giving it for a 6 month period.

I also have my car insurance with USAA, and received an identical letter. My experience with them has been way good, not only in their prices, but in the way they treat their customers.

I've been a member of USAA since 1967. Really enjoy the company. I pay my insurance off at the beginning of the six month period. There will credit my next bill. As a 40+ year member I now get two rebates from USAA every year which pay for half of my insurance costs. What's not to like.

PEMCO is giving all auto insurance customers a credit in the amount of 15% for Apr., May and June. Their letter did not write anything about refunding money.

I suppose if you were making monthly payments the 15% would be real but my guess is they'll raise rates more than enough to cover the credit so writing on the next annual renewal billing that the bill reflects the credit will be meaningless.

I like the rebate that arrives in December.

USAA rocks. Got the refund, excellent service for (thankfully) only a few claims, and the annual SSA check usually covers the adult holiday beverages.

BTW, make sure to identify the SSA in estate planning documents. If, like many, you’ve been a long term member, it’s a few grand, tax-free to the estate.
