Hello all

Can someone give some explanations of why the 10xx series handle the 10mm better than a converted 1911 style? Dont both use a link type system for lockup, so both should be pretty strong? If a heavier slide were made for the 1911 would it help the 1911 style? Is the 10xx series just built more robust?
Please dont get me wrong, I like my 1076, and most opinions feel the 10xx are a great design. I am not disagreeing that they are a great pistol, just wondering "why" they are better.

The S&W is a linkless system. It is just a newer design platform and probably over-engineered as far as strengh is concerned. Not that there is any problem with the 1911, considering it over a hundard years old and still going strong.

You can find other brands out there that make, or have made a 10mm in a 1911 style. Both frames can take the abuse just fine. However, you can see and feel how much more weight and structure there is to the 10XX series. As mentioned above the 10XX series is probably over-engineered.

Does the actual "link" do anything for the 1911? Does this allow some modification of locked/unlocked timing or anything?

I asked this before and recall there was not much difference. What is the weight of a 1911 vs. a 3rd generation smith? I believe it was only 2-3 ounces.
