Different K frame hands

Can anyone explain the why or when the hand on the right would be used? These are both K frame hands. The right one was in a new to me 66-2. I wanted to install a wider hand and most that are available are like the one on the left. I ordered several to try different sizes.

Functionality the little hump on the front moves the hand away from the ratchet near the end of the trigger pull after the cylinder is locked. The hand on the left stays next to the ratchet keeping the lockup tighter. Which style is correct?

The one on the right has an "S" stamped on it, meaning it is made of stainless steel. That's about all I can contribute!

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. The reason for the hump has me puzzled and my internet searches have come up empty.

When you say lockup tighter, that kinda makes me wonder if there's a little issue with the width of the cylinder stop head and the cylinder locking slot. Clearance between those should be 0.001" to 0.002" max.

I don't recall ever seeing that bump on a hand before. Now I'm going to have to check all my spares.

What I really have is a barrel that doesn't line up with the firing pin hole at cylinder stop lock. Checked with the brownells alignment rod, visible build up on one side of forcing cone and not the other. A slightly thinner stop (diamond file) and thicker hand has everything in line. In the process I was wondering what the use is for the "hump". The hand currently in use does not have the hump.
