Thinking of switching after 30 years of Comcast. Anyone use DIRECT TV?? Seems like they have improved in recent years, so might they be a better choice?? Would keep my current internet simply because it would be a super pain to change e-mail address, but maybe not. Would like to hear Both sides of the story here. THANKS!! :)

I have Direct and it's OK. They are supposed to do the billing for ATT and save us $20 on our internet. We'll see next month if my bill changes.

Weird, ATT has U-verse. I didn't think they worked together W/Direct.

Directv is great and have had it for years! You will not be disappointed. If you get Directv please let me know, there are some secrets that I can help you with.

We've had DirectTV for years as well, and it's been totally reliable and not a hassle. It's more expensive than I'd like, but I guess we have more money than sense.

I'll tell you a secret. The bill keeps on getting higher and I offered to have them turn it off. They gave me another year with no contract for $43 less than our current bill. Plus the ATT savings.

If it don't work out I'm gonna do Web TV. They see the writing on the wall and have a lot of equipment out there.

I would check out the various Web TV offerings. If I didn't already have Direct that's probably what I'd do.

I had it for about a year and a half. It wasn't bad but in the spring, during tornado season, I'd lose signal just when I really needed it. During the winter I'd have to go out and brush snow off the dish. I've heard you can buy dish warmers to help with that problem.
All-in-all a pain. Charter cable works much better for me.

We've had it since the early 90's back when you had to buy your own equipment. Whenever we had a problem they took care of it right away, only time we have to wait for anything is when a receiver goes bad, with electronics that is expected takes a couple days to get a new one.

Great picture with the new TV's. Add more receivers for $5 more per month, wish Sirus was like that, You will lose signal when a bad storm hits, snow or rain. It usually only last a short time. Seems to be worst on HD but you can switch to non HD channel as they give you both for most channels if you get HD. I mounted my own antenna as I didn't want them to put holes in my roof, I mounted it on the fascia where it was solid I think they will also mount on a pole not sure if that is extra. Outside of bills going up no complaints, but then what bill doesn't go up.

My dish doesn't seem to be effected by snow or Ice but I have cleared if off once and have had ice and snow on it. Good thing about it is a storm comes through and take out electric poles or cable lines you don't have to wait for them to repair the line. Last time we lost electric poles for a week or two we just fired up the generator and were back in service as soon as we started the generator, while the cable people didn't get service for almost a month.

I had dish for about five months and loved it. Not sure how Direct matches up but the quality was the same as cable, but the channel listing ROCKS. It only shows you channels that you have access to. I HATE mediacom/comcast (I've had both between Illinois and Iowa) show the world of what you can get when you already pay for what you want.

Switch over to a google, apple, microsoft email account. While I'm back with mediacom now, we might be dropping all cable TV in favor of broadcast (local channels) and computer based options. I need faster internet and in Ames the only option for "Up To" 30 MB is cable. We just got 4G LTE through T-Mobile so I'm thinking that I might push the boys (15 & 17) to use their own hot spots and I could live at 12MB via CenturyLink and use my phone as a backup.

Thanks grip, but I just clicked it on to check it out and they say "webtv/msntv is discontinuing service affective September 30, 2013." :(

I've had Directv for over ten years and love it. Just recently upgraded to the Whole Home DVR with Genie where you can record 5 shows at once. It's the best in my book.

dish is better and cheaper than direct...once my direct contract is up. i a, going back to dish...

I've done that as well - over my wife's initial squeals of protest. It works every couple years. :)

I've had Direct for about a year and a half. My reception is lost during moderate & heavy storms, they've tried to raise the monthly bill a few times on me while under contract. (Customer service got an ear full). I'm not real impressed with them but still prefer over Time Warner Cable...

I have direct tv, have for 15 years. I pay ATT $48/month to bring a dsl line in here so I can wart you guys. What is the savings ya'll referred to with ATT/Direct TV? I could buy a box of .22 shells or something, hopefully.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT-- :) This all sounds about what I expected. It will be installed the 23rd. Savings is about 70/80 bucks a month-- if the savings goes south I will do something else- what I don't know :) We don't get that much snow here, for the most part, nor other storms. Will just have to live with it. :)
