Disabling lock: remove all or just the flag?

There is no need to remove the lock on the Taurus. Since the Taurus lock is on the hammer and is perpendicular to the line of recoil it doesn't suffer from the self locking problem of the S&W design. The S&W design, putting a rotating piece inline with the force of recoil could only have been conceived of by a complete moron.

Grind the nub off the flag.
Take the flag out of the revolver
send revolver back to Smith-tell them that it came without a flag (or you lost the flag while taking it apart to see how it worked

) they'll send tyou your revolver back with a new flag.
Case solved.
My bill is in the mail.

Two months and a great deal of shooting since I removed just the flags from my 325/329 PD's....the rest of the locking mechanism is still intact without issue.

Smith will sell you the flag. Just have the part # ready when you call, and only give them the part#. I have a bunch of J-frame flags, and "broken" ones...LOL
That was back when I was foolish and owned a few lock revolvers............NEVER AGAIN!

Has anyone done this lately? I was under the impression that S&W will ask why you need the flag and if you say you damaged or lost your original flag they will have you send the gun in "for repair"?

I use a 637 IL everyday and removed it all. The holes don't bother me.

When I get my CPL, (I hope they approve it), I'll be buying a 442 or one of those J frames with the safety grip (i.e., if either of those are available).

If not, I'll buy an Airweight that might have a lock.

I'll then remove the whole stupid thing and tape all of the lock pieces to a target.

I'll then use that target at the range and blast the entire lock mechanism into smithereens.
