Disappointed in PRO SERIES

@mcracco---what class do you shoot in with the mods listed above? I thought in IDPA the pistols had to be mostly production.

I don't know if I would agree with the comment re the XDM
5.25 trigger -- I just bought a Springfield 5.25 .40 cal XDM
10 days ago -- and have not made any modifications to it --
I thought the trigger was very nice right out of the box and have shot a POST course with it and qualified. It is my first .40 cal pistol (I have a bunch of 9mm's, .380's, .45's -- Brownings, Berettas, Kimbers, Smiths) and I do like the Springfield. I will admit that I have spent lots of range days qualifying on an M9 (Beretta 92) on military courses with pistols drawn at random from the armorer (and of course none had been accurized and usually had been treated "rough" -- and had typical military pistol triggers) and always qualified --
so being able to shoot anything even a notch above military troop issue seems like heaven to me. I do recognize that even my XDM's trigger could be improved a bit, but for an out of the box striker-fired pistol, it has been a pleasant surprise to me.:)

I guess it depends on what your idea of a "competition match trigger" is.

I've been shooting competitively in one shooting game or another for over 30 years. IMO, a good competition trigger on an autoloader should have around .2 in. of take up, followed by a glass rod single stage break, with no perceivable over travel. The reset should be so short you can't feel the trigger move, just hear and feel the "click" and your ready to shoot again.

Not feel like the trigger bar is pushing through a bowl of lumpy mashed potatoes, with a reset so long your finger nail touches the front of the trigger guard.

What I'm getting at is S&W (and others) use to put this type of trigger on their standard production autos. Why can't we expect it on a "premium competition" model today?

Reset click means absolutely nothing in IDPA,USPSA, any action shooting sport or self defense situation.Because you will never feel or hear it under those conditions.

I can't comment on self defense situations as I've never fired a shot under those conditions. But, for competition, I couldn't disagree with you more.
