Year of make for 629-5 (pre Hilary Hole) and 686 Pro Series

Hello all! New to the forum and S&W Revolvers.

Was hoping to get assistance on manufacture dates of two new purchases I have made:

- 629-5 with serial number CDW9892
- 686+ Pro Series with serial number DNF6247

Anyone able to help with when these revolvers were made?

CDW revolvers are known from 1999 and 2000, but I can't say with certainty they were made only in those years.

I couldn't turn up a dated DNF serial number, but the new 5th Edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is in release now. It should contain a section that addresses the problematic triple alpha serial numbers, and it may include what you want to know. I expect to receive my copy tomorrow, and several forum members have it already. Perhaps one of them can address the DNF question.

My copy of SCSW5 got here earlier than I expected, so I looked for DNF serial numbers. Sorry to report that there is no guidance for that particular triple-alpha prefix.

EDITED TO ADD: Just occurred to me that if you acquired those revolvers with their original boxes, there should be a coded Julian date of production on a computer-generated label. I don't think you will find it on hand-written labels. Look for a field headed up "Special Order."
