Took the kids and Grandkids to Disney World. Credit card maxed out. Stuff there has gotten very expensive, although I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Had a wonderful time. Really enjoyed the new Star Wars stuff. The Empire Storm Troopers still can't shoot.

Have a Love/hate relationship with Disney. Like going there, but did TEN marching band trips over a 20 year period. Gets old, and it's not that much fun when you're responsible for 70 other people's kids!

Looking forward to going there with just the wife when I retire soon. Hasn't been just the two of us since our honeymoon!!

I think all of the big-name theme parks have hiked their prices to make up for all the business lost during the pandemic.

I was in southern California about two weeks before Disneyland was due to open in 1955. I was 12 years old, and very disappointed that we had to leave for points north. 66years ago.

I was fortunate to be able to take my kids there three or maybe four times during their childhood and teenage years. I always admired how well run that place was. At that time, they definitely “ran a tight ship.” It was expensive then, so I can only imagine what it’s like today. I have to admit I’m in no hurry go back, but I might be up for one more visit if enough new things come along. I enjoyed Animal Kingdom. I’m glad you and the family had a good time and hope the financial recovery doesn’t take too long.

Been there a number of times growing up here in Florida. Not sure what year I first went there. I know I went in 1976 with my senior high school class. Went in 1990 and the last time was about 2006. Not sure if I will ever go back. Could happen if we take the grandkids some day but no plans at this time as they live here with their parents and the parents can take them I hope.

Having been to DW three times and DL in Anaheim about 10x—all trips with children/grandchildren—I can say the Disney experience holds nothing for me any more. The costs, the lines, the aggravations, having to learn to “game” the park(s) to get the best bang for your $$$$—eh. There are other ways I get more thrills and satisfaction from life for a lot less trouble and money.

Except of course if some grandchildren want to go . . .

I was born here , and lived most of my life here . My daughter has worked there on/off since she was 18 , now she's in management . Even though my wife and I can get in for free , we don't go . I don't do crowds .

Golphin , I too graduated in 1976 . Did you go to the senior night ? Or to the specials they had for teens ? I remember them bringing in bands like the Grass Roots .

In terms of cost, well? It is what it is. Reframe the conversation and say, no amount of money could explain how much fun the kids and I had.

Disney is A-OK, but my favorite is Epcot. In the 1980's, when I was in the geodesic dome, on an "Alien" ride for the movie...it scared the ... made an impression let's say, that never left. I like Disney for the Brand equity and strength the brand has, but my favorite has to be Epcot.

The ride in the geodesic sphere in Epcot has always been “Spaceship Earth” since the park opened. It’s been updated a couple times. There was a “ride,” which didn’t move, called Alien Extraterrestrial or some such in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom which opened In the mid 90’s. It generally scared the snot out of people and then became LILO and Stitch in the mid 2000’s . . .

Muss, it is possible that my memory is not 100% on it. I thought it was for the movie Alien and I seem to recall one of the creatures coming out of the ceiling. It was many years ago and some days, I am lucky to recall what I had for breakfast with everything going on. Oh well. No biggie.

Me too. Then again I spent 1980-86 building 4 whole pavilions (France then Japan, The GE IMAX ride, it's something else now and last Living Seas that's getting demolished now apparently) and parts of at least a dozen more. Lotsa concrete. EPCOT was not intended as a theme park as Walt envisioned it. It was more educational in the 80's and then morphed into the thrill ride collection it is today. Magic Kingdom for the little ones, EPCOT for the grown ups. I still wonder what happened to that belt drive, early 20th century Harley Davidson by the billboard in what is now "Test Track." Joe

Your memory of the ride is spot on, just not the location or the time frame. It was in the old Mission to Mars building, which was an original attraction in Tomorrowland in 1975. Alien opened in 1995.

I can almost fall asleep on the Spaceship Earth ride in the geodesic sphere in Epcot. Alien Extraterrestrial, not so much . . .
