Do I REALLY NEED THE MP 2.0 OPTICS 10MM?

Yes, I know that it is required in Africa, even Alaska, and Wyoming (if in wilderness areas). Montana required a guide for non residents when I was up there, similar to the Wyoming regulation.
But despite pretty good evidence that Mr. Dobbs had back-up (the video)
Frank chose to show the still photo and claim he did the feat all by his lonesome.

And also going back to the "Danish soldiers carrying their G20's on patrol for protection against polar bears" as in post #57.
Let's be clear, those patrols carry the U.S. model of 1917 ("the American Enfield") as their main armament.
Soldiers the world over rely mainly on long guns, not semi auto pistols.
The Danish Greenlandia patrol has their Glocks as a "break glass in case of emergency" tool only.

I was accused of not doing my research, but the accuser certainly didn't do any.

I think the point with the 10mm is as a defensive weapon against a bear attack. It isn't practical to tote a long gun for self defense when in the wilderness. You just can't present it fast enough, but a 10MM pistol is small and light enough to carry as a defensive weapon. I would hope the folks are not hunting Grizzly with a 10mm pistol only.

Rosewood

Good to know and thanks for the research.

The Greenland Patrol has killed at least one Polar bear with a 10mm as the 30-06 was out of reach in that situation. Not ideal but it did its job in an emergency.

True, and that's the point of having an immediately accessible sidearm in those environs: for when your rifle or shotgun is out of reach or otherwise unavailable.

Wrong.

"Carry" and "issued" are two different things. They're issued the 1917 rifles, but they're not always "carrying" them. Their 10mm G20 sidearms are always on them.

Noop. Still wrong. ... Keep swinging. You're going for the Big Strike 3 Whiff-out.

Research? LOL! You certainly haven't done any in two pages of this thread.

But 10mm-haters like Sandog want to argue just to argue. They don't care if they make sense. They also don't care about, or respond to, real-world examples, like Denmark's Sledge Patrol units.
I'm having a civil discussion, unlike some here ........

10 mm go bye bye

Years ago my father purchased a S&W 1006, I believe, from a local patron of our store. With all the cash he kept on hand I had no issue with the idea. Shot it a few times but absolutely hated the feel, grip, trigger and over all ergonomics. Didn't have too much time to dislike the gun, just a month or so after it was purchased the FBI showed up and took it into possession. Apparently the sheriff had been selling material from evidence and that included the 10mm.
Just glad the Feds didn't arrest my father or myself for possession of a stolen weapon.
There is a good story linked with this tale. It involves a snowy morning, a car that didn't belong to me, no insurance, no tags, no license, rolling through a stop sign, a bag holding $10,000 cash, the afore mentioned stolen pistol and LLE.
:D

Ah yeah, no  ... but cool story anyway, bro.

Heckova first post too. Welcome to the Board.

Just like the first time

Thank you for the welcome! Glad to be here.
Will be posting some questions about a .22 LR revolver left to me, it is an old (50s-60s?) S&W, still mint, in the box but no paperwork. The bluing is magnificent. Had never seen such deep blue coloration before and the trigger breaks like an icicle. Such a breath of fresh air from shooting plastic, smush and banger striker fired guns. Have to get all the info first.

By the way, the long story is true. Got off with just a warning.
:D

I bought the 4.0" when my lgs called to tell me they got one in….once I got back in state for weekend home I picked it up put an rmr on it put a couple hundred rounds through it, in all honesty it feels a little more snappy than my g20..actually to me it's more like shooting the g29. Next trip home making my rounds to my lgs's and saw a 4.6" at a different shop than the first purchase with a little price negotiation it left with me ….i put an rmr on it as well but didn't have time to shoot it yet.

Do I live/spend time in the woods/mountains/jungles with dangerous game and not have a rifle on my person?did I need a or 2 m&p 10mm pistols? No as others have said it's not always about need sometimes it's about want or to have options…but it boils down to a personal decision on that.

Going to the internet and asking the op's original question always ends up in typical internet fashion of getting the full range of responses from buy to dot buy, it's the soul taker to .22lr has taken more deadly game than xxcaliber…lol if you'd like one and can afford it buy it….if you don't/ can't don't buy it don't make the decision based on the words of unknown people you have no way of quantifying their knowledge base.lol …..my worthless opinion…buy both sizes! But I have 5 safes full of things I wanted not needed lol

Semi local gun store posted on FB that they had the 10mm is stock. Called to verify and paid for a 4.6 inch non safety model (13387). Will pick it up tomorrow. I have been checking all of the gun stores in my area and none have had it in stock until now. They did say they had several in stock. Now to start the not so patient wait for magazines to become available.

How far does it shoot?

The light. Not sure exactly. It provides enough illumination to identify a target at 30yds in my yard imho, which will serve just fine as a camp pistol/ bear backup arm for emergencies

Congratulations! I know what you mean about magazines… my solution was to buy both the 4.0 & 4.6…. So I have 4 mags to hold me till the mags actually become available.🤣🤣

10mm

Got my first 10mm in 1984 a standard Bren Ten. Never got my mags, went to Shot 12 years ago and ordered 8 models of the Vltor Bren Ten, never got them. Guess I have owned most of the 10mm handguns produced since the Delta Elite came out, still owned 8 diff. Models until recently now 10 since I got the 2 Smith's.
Don't really need any more but, other than I like them all! Always liked my MP45 so hoped S&W would finally build them in 10mm. Plan to shoot some of my original Norma 200gr that the Bren never used in the Smith's to see how it runs, pretty hard on the original Delta. The Smith's aren't perfect but go start.
