Do only "old"guys edc revolvers

I'm 26 and I carry a revolver everday, sometimes two. Usually a model 49 bodyguard or my 4" model 10-5 with a bobbed hammer. Very occasionally a model 57-1, however that one is hard to hide in warmer weather. I would agree though that those who do carry in my generation and younger are almost all using plastic pistols. It's sad that most of the mainstream "youth" in my generation are actually just plain anti anything gun related. Unless of course some dumb (c)rap song mentions one...

Meanwhile at 520Fan's last paragraph, LEO with S&W Target grips also given presumption of probably being reasonably competent.

Young (mid-twenties) female relative: started with a single-line .38 M&P and now a 638. She had her choice of about anything and tried many of them. She's really smart and her choices show it.

I carry a 649 or a 637 or nickel colt detective special
All the time as a bug. My primary is a mod 19, mod 28,
Mod 625 jm, mod 629, 686 or a 1911. Carry all primaries
In shoulder holsters of various makes ken null, bianchi, safariland
I am breaking in a ruger lt wt commander now and will
Probably start adding it to rotation. I'm 64. I really like the
1911 + snubby combination-Chicago Carry- Not from Chicago but am from
Detroit

I'm older than some, 68, and love revolvers. I even strap on a single action once in a while. But with these poor eyes and tri-focals, I carry a full size M&P auto. Hopefully with the extra ammo load I'll eventually either hit or scare off my attacker. But I love those revolvers!!

I'm 23 and carry a 4" model 19 made in 1971 most of the time. Had a glock 21, didn't care for it much. My first pistol I bought, a 1911 sits in its box most of the time haha. I've got 3 revolvers right now, adding a j frame to the mix soon. I love revolvers haha

I carry both now. For 48 years I've carried a revolver (except when my superiors made me carry something longer and heavier)...and I'm 63.
And you're only as old as who you feel;)

Have both, carry both, although not at the same time. Since most SD encounters are point blank to ten feet, I don't feel intimidated carrying my Model 49 J frame, or overly empowered with my full size M&P. If it ever comes down to crunch time, (God forbid), it'll be up to me to perform. The tool at my disposal will only be as good as I am.

Depending on the weather you could say I'm pushing 70 or dragging 60.

But I'm still "On the Job" carrying a high cap 9mm backed up by the ubiquitous .38 spl. M-642.

At 66 I'm still considered a child by some here. Childish by all others for sure! Yeah, I carry a revolver, 2" S&W 13-1, or a Ruger SP101 2.25". I promise to grow up next year.

J frames are supposed to be uncomfortable with factory grips, just like K frame M&Ps. With exceptions for some people with different hands or strange ways of aiming a pistol, S&W revolvers are in general unusable with factory grips. If your J frame is a steel RB, you can probably make it work with a Tyler. If it a SB, you can almost surely make it work with a Tyler. If it is a RB Airweight, you may be able to make it sort of work with an extremely firm grip, or, better, with some large aftermarket grips which make it less concealable.

P.S. In the sixties, I used to eyeball cops' guns, which were revolvers back then, mostly S&W. If I saw a grip adapter or aftermarket grips, I figured he knew something about guns. If I didn't, I figured he didn't. I was probably right. Any old-time LEOs care to comment?

That is an extremely broad statement, now isn't it. Indeed, as has been stated, it really does change man to man, hand to hand, and perhaps even shooting style to shooting style. Of the grips I've tried for my Model 10's, the old wooden stock service grips have served me by far the best. For N frame, the old style target wood grips are great, and my daily carry pistol, an M27, I use a wooden standard service grip, because that's what works well for me. Although i will admit, the new style wooden target grips that came with it were worthless to me.

Some people find "stock" general issue settings to be fine, if not in some cases work the best. Not everyone demands exacting custom work be done to make a firearm work well, not everyone goes through endless toil trying to get the perfect grip or fit. Some people can pull a gun off the rack and use it just fine. Some people don't feel the need, or actually need, custom grips or any extras.

I think there is a general attitude in many shooters overall, and in fact in many other hobbies/fields, that you aren't "serious" unless you customize every last bit of every gun/whatever else it is you have. You CAN'T shoot rifle without buying expensive custom triggers, stocks, and attach every single item built for your gun on the fancy rail set. A 12 gauge shotgun won't work for self defense UNLESS you buy a special 18 inch barrel, a new "tactical" stock, rails, lights, rangefinders, ect.. If you own a pistol, there better well be replaced sights, custom grips, lazers, ect. Considering not everyone shoots match or buys into the effectiveness of a lot of these things, or can't afford fancy custom parts, or whatever the reason they keep a gun stock, its a bad general idea to run with.

I've met kids with super fancy assault rifles with all the fancy extras, all custom done, who couldn't shoot worth a thing. They had fun and enjoyed it, but they never really learned proficiency. There are a lot of people out there who own high grade stuff they never use, buy expensive guns and rarely shoot them, own expensive power saws and wood working equipment that sits in the store box and never gets used. I've seen some pretty serious people who can show up with a beat up old gun with stock iron sights or a cheap scope who can shoot well and have fun; even if they don't win they take shooting seriously and learn a lot, and are proficient.

I have never judged a man by his weapon choice or extras, because its a hollow assumption, a prejudice.

THEY CALL ME THE KID,

HERE IN GODS WAITING ROOM. 58 y/o disabled 5 years from a meth dealer in a stolen purple caddie, fit a stereotype or what? I guess it's all relative. 75+% a 640 J, a stainless Sig p239 40 cal, or both.

Well.... let me see........... I am old enough to want to get older... and wise enough to carry a defensive hand gun that will assist me in doing just that. I have a few bottom feeders and more revolvers. The auto's have at one time or the other failed to feed or failed to eject or failed to fire... even had a magazine floor plate fall off during a rapid fire drill.
Now as I recall I have never had a malfunction of any kind with my revolvers.... so as I see it.... the older I get... the older I want to get.

Carry what you will.... and maybe hold your water and maybe learn something from one of us " old guys".

The only thing needed for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.......forgot who said that.... getting old I guess.

I'm only 24 and have been carrying either a 342 or mod 60 everyday since I started carrying about 2 years ago. Revolvers just seem right to me.

S&W Forum....(sadly)has become a forum for old, hobbling, gimpy, bad eyes(everyone complains about not being able to "see"sights) ALSO most have a "very"sick sense of humor
elderly "gentlemen"!!What happened to the YOUNG guys!!Where are the women shooters??How many secretly edc semis !!Any afraid of getting "banned"by the oldsters for admitting this!hee-hee! :D

Who are you calling' old, son? I'm just shy of 60, retired police lieutenant after 37 years, been retired a year and a half. I hobble around on one arthritic knee that needs replaced and one arthritic lower leg and ankle that was broken almost 40 years ago. I've had LASIX and have one eye set for distance and one set for close up, which really screws up my dominant eye when sighting, but I still manage to qualify in the high 90's to 100% (depending on gun).

So, am I old? Yep. Do I carry revolvers only? Nope, but quite often I carry a 340 M&P or 640. My other carry guns are a Combat Commander in .45ACP, a Glock 19, and most usually a 9mm Shield. When I carry a semi-auto edc, it's not a surprise to anyone. but I do love my revolvers.

I'm 67 and I carry a chief special working around the farm, with a marlin lever .22 magnum rifle in the seat of my truck. Going out with the wife I carry my Colt 1911. Both reliable firearms. Don't like to crawl around the barns and equipment with a 1000+ dollar gun.
