Do you carry extra mags?

I mostly carry a revolver now, with a couple of speedloaders and a speed strip.

When I used to carry a slabside gun, usually a 1911, I did often carry an extra mag with FMJ, in addition to the one in the gun and the two on my weak side. Nowadays, I'd be more likely to carry just the loaded gun and the two mags on my left, no extra mag.

I don't carry extra mags but thinking maybe I should.

I've tried to find a balance between convenience/comfort and with a phone, wallet, keys, firearm, etc... on me, a spare mag is just another annoyance. With the overwhelming odds against actually drawing a firearm in SD and discharging...I've never felt the need for extra mags.

I first try to minimize my risk by living in a very low-crime area (avoid frequenting rough areas), don't drink/drugs, mind my own business, surround myself with good people/company, and treat people with respect.

I have mags (in a carrier) and a back-up firearm in my personal vehicle but never on me. In my state, there's a "duty to retreat" clause...don't think emptying a magazine, reload and engaging falls under duty to retreat (lol).

I'm currently using Taurus pt111 G2 (my spare pistol) while the Shield is away...probably will pick up either a MP9C or XD Mod 2 or maybe try carrying my MP FS...all with no extra backup mag.

I usually test my firearm with at least 500 rounds using a single mag before relying on it...using the spare mag as my range mag (uplula loader speeds up reload considerably, so extra range mag is not a necessity and reloading gives me time to assess my performance).

Just wondering if the members here carry extra mags and why? If it's a good reason, I may start carrying extra mags. I'm not too concern with my pistol and mag failing as I put it through an intensive course to ensure relability.

I carry and extra mag in an old swiss army knife scabbard, no one is the wiser. And I usually fire a mag of range ammo and a mag of my pda on a new mag. I have 7 mags for my shield and none have ever let me down.

Yes, 1 extra mag weak side belt if I am belt carrying, or weak side pocket if I am pocket carrying. Because I can do it comfortably and never know when I may need it.

Just last week I had a mag spring stick in compressed position when I was unloading it by hand. Had to take it apart and still did not see anything wrong with it. It is a relatively new OEM mag and had previously been checked with multiple full loadings before I declared it ok. So stuff happens!

I generally carry 1 extra mag when out and about. The main 2 reasons for it is simple, these days it is more likely to encounter multiple assailants since trash travels together and the other reason I know it's a long shot however, if there is a failure with the primary mag I have back up. Now at work I carry 4 spares and have access to a few more.
I agree 110% with blackhorse2010 Las Vegas is precisely the way he described and as we all know, no matter how nice your area is trash travels sadly. MPD, HPD and NHP are in my area and they do a fantastic job but we all know they cannot be everywhere all the time.

I don't carry an extra magazine on a day to day basis. I figure if I can't get it done with eight I need more practice. Having written that, when I am in the mountains, I do carry 2 extras. Sometimes the big nasty guys don't seem to know when they are shot.
